Hi guys,
Do you guys have any information about Forester Turbo? Will it sell in the US market? When? If it will be available in late 2002, I think I will not get WRX in summer 2002. Thanks for reply, TimY

There isn't much knowledge on this subject, but here's a bit of info for you:-
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=59663 Basically, the impreza is getting a facelift and there will be a Forester based on the new shape impreza chassis making it's debut at the Geneva motorshow in march. Wait until then to see what's happening. Have you driven both a forester and WRX? If not then do so, you'll find quite a difference. My Forester S-turbo has the same suspension and wheels as the US Forester S so everything will be the same apart from the engine. I've not driven a WRX, but the forester engine is basically the same apart from a smaller turbo which spins up quicker to to produce more lowdown torque but produces less ultimate power. Impreza's are lower and roll less in bends, but they don't have the space and ground clearance of the Forester. Last edited by toerag; 12-18-2001 at 04:41 AM. |

Hi toerag,
Thanks for your quick reply. Is there any comparison article about Forester Turbo S and Land Rover Freelander in your country? Im considering Freelander, WRX, miata MX-5 and Mini Cooper S in the state next summer. I know they are all different kind of cars, but hehe.... the price are almost the same. Cooper S does not debut yet(late march or later). No info about Forester T S. I already test drive MX-5 and WRX. Both of them are great, but miata is too small i think. If there is official subaru info for Forester T S, I think I will wait to test drive it then make final decision later. Maybe wait until I graduate from school. Anyway, I know its too early to say which car I will get, but I just want to get more info about those cars. Hehe... Im going to test drive Freelander this week after I finish my final exam. Thanks for all information that everyone posted, TimY |

I haven't seen any back-to-back comparisons with the freelander, but I do know that they had a lot of build quality problems with it, and there's a LOT of badge snobbery. One of the top UK mags says that the Forester drives better on road than any other SUV (freelander, Rav4, Xtrail etc.). Do a google search for 'forester' and see what you get. Are intending to do any offroading? I guess not as you're thinking of a Miata! The mini is about the same size as a miata and offers similar cornering power due to it's size and weight. Neither has the brutal acceleration or top-end speed of the WRX or the AWD usefulness of both the subarus, but the fuel economy is better and probably the insurance too. If you're considering the Forester then the Audi Allroad and volvo cross country are similar, but much more expensive (28K compared to 19k), and I saw one review where the volvo 4WD didn't work at all.
Go to www.subaru.co.uk for the specs on my Forester, and ask okimakitore (sp?) what his does, he's done quite a few mods. Good luck in your quest!! Ps. US foresters get the 2.5l engine at the moment, there's hope of them putting the H6 from the legacy in the new version. Mine is 2l. |

Very little likelyhood of the H6 going in the Forester. This is why. The Foresters are all manufactured in Japan. Legacy Outbacks are all manufactured in the US. Only the Legacy platform gets the H6 because it is also manufactured in the US. Impreza platform vehicles (including the '03 Forester) are much more likely to get the EJ20T motor. This was explained to me by a Subaru Rep at the last international car show in town...
As for the sheer acceleration of a Miata, with an aftermarker supercharger ($2.5k) or turbo (more like $3.5k+) the Miata becomes a SCREAMER!!! I love mine... |

Yeah. I drive the Forester daily. My wife drives a '00 Impreza RS Sedan (1.5" lowered using Tein soft springs, front & rear strut bars and an 18mm rear sway bar) daily, and we have the Miata as a "play" car. I replaced a motorcycle with the Miata. Got tired of almost dying. Plan to make mods towards the "dorifto" scene to the Miata in the near future and plan to add a Greddy turbo as soon as money allows...
