Is there a requirement to earn an "Armin Approved" stamp before becoming an alumni?
I've not "passed" yet. haha

No it is not a requirement, he said anyone who has found this thread helpful which I'm sure everyone has. Funny you should mention the stamp though. I was going to suggest maybe having a section of "stamp" photos and maybe an explanation why so people can get a good idea of what it might take.

I was also going to suggest that there may be a photo of the week kind of thing where one photo is featured on the home page with a little bio of the photographer or something. There are so many good pics from people on here and it will give people a better chance of seeing some of them.

One last suggestion would be when he gets more pro contributors for them to maybe have a pic of the week for each of them or something like that. I think it would get a lot of people involved and give them something to shoot for. (as the "stamp" has done)

I would really like to see this site take off and a lot of people contribute. This is the only place that has told me if I was going in the right direction with my photography or not. Let me know what you think Armin.

I'd throw some in but most of my shots are non-automotive now. I did just do a set today though.

I hate your choice of music honestly, seemed a little too fast paced for slow panning of your car. Neat video, but I felt with different music it could have made it stronger. My 2 cents

Try using an instrumental style song, you can usually pick and choose where you want to start out and it will work. There was another video someone posted on here that I thought was done well with that style music. Here is the link for it, maybe it will spark some ideas for you. That is posted in the DSLR/car thread in members rides If my memory serves.

It has been quite awhile since I have contributed to this thread, as I sold my wrx over a year ago now, but this thread has been instrumental in my progress as a photographer. I am happy to say that I have been doing all types of shoots for people this year, for $$$!! Mostly marketing stuff, but I also have several pieces on display at a local shop as well and will be displaying more work in multiple venues in the near future.

I do have a slideshow of some of what I consider to be my better shots of the old wrx. Or what I did consider to be my better shots, 2 years ago. Now I see all the mistakes...

A big thanks to Armin and all the participants in this thread, it has been a great help.

I am getting insanely bored of this location...but it works with the wet/gloomy mornings we have had lately. Matte white GT-R.

Just a quick post to show my latest...

My images were used for the latest Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car edition. I wasn't credited correctly, they didn't use the images I really wanted them to and they edited and cropped my shots really weird after the fact...but it is still cool to see them in a magazine.

It is in this edition.

And these are the images...

Yes, that's correct...earning a stamp isn't required, I just wanted to list and give back to those who actually found this thread helpful in the photography. As far as section of those who've received stamps, I'm not sure if I want to include that simply because I want those to be kept to this thread here on NASIOC. Last thing I want is some random person emailing me all the time asking for stamps

I've got a lot of ideas for things contributors can add, so just keep an eye out for that. I just added my Lightroom 3 basics video to the site for those of you who haven't seen it yet

This one almost seems to be a bit oversharpened, due to how jagged the lines on the hood and body pieces are. I also don't like how sudden the DOF changes from the really bottom blurred out area to the car. It just seems a little more extreme than normal. I also might've exposed it a little more and used a warmer white balance.

I agree about the music, particularly because of the pace. Music definitely is one of the hardest parts to figure out for a video, and I usually spend more time on that than anything else.

Regarding the video itself, a lot of parts still seem really shaky for some reason and it really bugs me. What kind of tripod are you using? Also, remember that for video, most of the same rules from photography carry over, particularly rule of thirds. If you keep this in mind next time you sit down you watch a movie or even a TV show, you'll notice it right away.

As for the light painting photo, as I said before, a larger light source would benefit a great deal, not just in giving you more even light overall, but also so that you can be farther away from the car and thus you'll be able to remove the swooshes much more easily. I still think the white balance is also too blue.

Good example, especially when it comes to the music. Here's another example from our in-house NWMotiv videographer, Loren Haleston:

Right on Tom, would you like me to add you to the No É8 website's alumni section? If so, how about a link to your work I can add?

These definitely look better, although I think the first one could still use a bit more exposure for the car especially. I think you're almost there...the sharpening helped a great deal but I think the car still needs a little more pop, maybe from a little more contrast (especially in the the middle one).

I've also added your link to the No É8 page

Here's my first attempt at night shooting. I shot both in color and b&w but couldn't get decent results in color. I guess it's different from what's normally popping up here but hey..

This one's a hit on tumblr right now, but does that mean its good? What would you change?

Thanks.
