Default Custom Forester-Sub

New here !
1)I am designing a custom sub-woofer for my forester and am planning to put it in a box behind the rear-left wheel arch. The problem I have is that there is a plastic storage bin there, that I want to get rid of and use that space for the sub enclosure.
Anyone know how to remove this bin ?
Suggestions ?

2)Also if anyone has changed their factory speakers in the front, what did you use ? Did you have to modify the plastic basket for it ?

Thanks !

First, try unscrewing everything around the bin (tie-down hooks, etc.) then see if the panel can be carfully unsnapped from the vehicle. I was thinking the same thing last week, but a neighbor kid sold me his MTX 2-10" box (with a JBL 160w amp) for $100. The box fits absolutely perfectly between the strut towers, against the back of the seats. Cross sectionally, it is trapizoidal, so it also clears my rear strut bar. Hooked it to a 4-channel 600w (max) amp (bridged to 2-channel). The thing DROPS!!! OMG...

As for front speakers, the 6.5" in the front doors are easy, but good luck with the 5" in the rear doors. I never have foud any that fit right. My grilles slightly bow outward due to the coaxial tweeter hitting. (there are Rockford Fosgate 5" 2-ways in there, though, and Alpine 6.5" 2-ways up front. They fit fine.)

Good luck...

thanks for the info foresterperformance, gr8 website.
Im not as resourceful as you in procuring good subs- cheap.
So im gonna do this the hard way.

Ive tried to unscrew everything but im afraid to pull too hard, Ill give it another go though. Im afraid Im going to have to take apart the lower foam thingy where the spare sits to get to the bin. Wish me luck.

Ive had problems with the 6.5 in front, which model number did you use ?
Im using Polk EX502a in the rear door, they went in fine and work really well.
Thanks

Very little of use that I can add, except that I replaced the OEM "premium" speakers with Polk EX502a in the rear and EX602a in front. (The foam around the tweeter in a front speaker was shot after 18 months.) Both went in with no problems though I did unclip the front wires in order to better reach the Polk's connections. Sound quality has improved but not dramatically. I still have the OEM door tweeters and the teeny subwoofer under the driver's seat, but I don't plan on changing those as I am getting older and, while I love music, I'd rather put my mod money into wheels, tires, suspension and exhaust.

Good luck,
Ed

Post custom sub

Ryan, hey sorry I didn't email ya back, my earthlink email is acting up. anyways, we had to unscrew the bin brackets and then we cut a bunch of stuff (metal) to make room for a custom fiberglass enclosure into which we place a solobaric woofer (Kicker) my front speakers are MB Quart separates with two way MB Quarts in the rear doors. We had to do some trimming of the bracket up front to fit the mid bassl, but the tweeter went in just fine. everything is powered with a mtx 275 and fosgate punch (oldschool) 75 controlled by a clarion cd/tuner 9575RZ and helped out with an Audiocontrol EQX. hope that helps.

With reference to lifting the polystyrene floor in the 'trunk', it's quite easy to do, there's a couple of big plastic 'rivets' you have to get out. I just pulled on the polystyrene until it came out! (You have to do these things when you're chasing wet paint!). You may need new 'rivets' if you break the existing ones. Perhaps your dealer may be able to help you?
