In B.C., yes it is illegal to drive without a front plate.

In Manitoba on the other hand, you can drive without a front plate. Actually, you only get one licence plate for your car! My aunt is from Winnipeg and when she drover her car to Vancouver a few years ago, I asked her why she didn't have a front plate. It's the law out there!

are u sure they are illegal??
I'm pretty sure they aren't. cuz if they were places like A&B sound wouldn't sell them. and also, i've been pulled over and through road blocks and the cops never said a word about my radar detector and its out in the open.

It just gives you a better chance at looking bad to the officer since it looks like you're trying to speed all the time.

I still say they are only good for when you're driving with a bunch of other cars and you're able to pick up the radar when they're clocking the guy beside you so you can slow down in time.

I don't think they use radar much - mostly laser these days. I haven't been using detector these days, especially when it doesn't help if the police use laser - other than to know that they did aim at U.

As for front license plate, I always thought of putting it in inside the car (wind shield area), think that's okay?

As far as I know, in BC the radar detector is legal. In ontario, I believe it's illegal. For other provinces, I have no idea then.

As of the last couple of years you now need a front plate again in Manitoba. Too bad. It was nice not having that ugly plate out front.

Front plates are not needed in Nova Scotia or PEI, but are in New Brunswick. Radar Detectors are 100% illegal in all Maritime provinces. They will confiscate it and drive over it. and you can get a huge fine.
