i miss my RS...

Question trustworthy engine retailer?

I may be helping someone replace a 99 2.5L RS engine very soon, but subaru and local shop quotes are ridiculous....but then the horror stories about buying cheap over the net are pretty scary.

anyone familiar with any good sources that are reasonably priced?

thanks!

Colorado Component Rebuilders (CCR) is a Subaru rebuilding specialist. Solid motors at okay prices. You pay for their experience and quality.

The owners of CCR are friends of mine, as are most of their employees. They are stand up people who do the job right, but you do pay for their experience and expertise. Rick, the owner, has been wrenching longer than I have been alive, and has been doing Suby engines as long as they have existed. They built my heads...

pricy...3k....the salvage yards want about 1700 w 3-6month warranty...kinda figuring that if it runs beautifully for 6 months, then the problems i may face after that are probably normal stuff that usually costs alot less than the extra 1300.

thoughts?

I have heard good things of CCR.

I have also used a junk yard near Sacramento (Subaru/Kia/...?) with mixed results.

For a "running engine with no performance aspirations" a junk yard engine may be OK.

If you plan to lean on it, spend some money now to prevent more money/downtime later.
