Default need help! where is the coolant sensor (EJ25 SOHC)

what's wrong here? the engine is warmed up, has been running over 15 minutes.

no coolant temp!

besides tripping the MIL, this causes a nasty stumble right off idle when you get into the gas, especially gently. driveability seems fine, but the fans are going fulltime and who knows what the thermostat is doing, if it's full open than this could be trouble in the summer, stuck in traffic. probably not as critical now in the cooler temps though.

(and yes, it is hot enough to make the heater work-- I tried it even though the weather is 45ish and I didn't need it.)

so where is it? I just finished replacing a bad head gasket and I bet it's just unplugged.

thanks dave. there's two connectors under there, one of them is brown, 2 pins and the other is white, 3 pins. the white one was disconnected on my car.

the white one isn't easy to reach with the intake manifold installed, but it's possible.
