Default Houston Tour Traffic Closure Alert

"Commonly called the Gulf Freeway, I-45's northbound and southbound lanes will be closed at NASA Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, said Norm Wigington, a Texas Department of Transportation spokesman."

If you're traveling to Gulf Greyhound (site of the Tour) around these times, I suggest an alternative route of taking 288 south, then Highway 6 east, then 1764 east. Gulf Greyhound is on 1764, and this alternate route will get you there from the opposite side as I-45. If you're coming from downtown, this route is only 5-10 minutes longer than taking I-45.

Also, take it easy on Highway 6. Lots of cops.

That Day 2 course looks relatively tight and heavy on transitions. Should favor the smaller cars/carts - miatas, minis, elises, mr-2's, F125 carts, etc.

The Day 1 course looks faster and a bit more wide open.

I'll be there again running in BS. Hopefully I won't choke on day 2 like I did in Arkansas.

I've made it from San Diego to Fort Stockton, Texas...we're going to try to make it to Houston before they close the I-45 tomorrow night.

See you there!

Actually, Iain and I have changed the name to Team Verility, since both of our wifes are pregnant. And within 2 weeks of due date. Actually, actually, mine got pregnant first. Iain and his tried for over 18 months. And after he let me co-drive with him for a few events. BAM! She gets pregnant.

I'm looking forward to the competition.

LOL!!!

Using that same logic, I should call myself Team Snipped Balls as my wife is pregnant with our 3rd child and I'll have to have them 'taken care of' soon!

Yeah, we had a 'cool front' move through and dropped the temps to the mid 80's. The best thing is the humidity has dropped significantly... feels awesome outside right now.

Did you do the test & tune practice? How grippy is the surface?

Its moderately grippy for what it is (an aging unsealed asphalt lot that is falling apart) but its no where near concrete. It is also a lumpy lot, so off camber turns placing high speed maneuvers over unsettling "yumps" is not uncommon.

I wasnt there today but Ive been running there for 3 years. They swept all the gravel up last week, but by the second heat the fast line is usually wherever the gravel isnt. They will sweep the course again eacy day before the event and between the 2nd and 3rd heat usually.

XP has already seen some attrition. Strelnieks' RX7 chewed up its tranny during the practice so he'll be in an AS S2000. Brian Matteucci's BMW has slipping clutch problem so it may not see the light day either.

Interesting... James is 2nd in HS about 0.4 secs back from the leader, Isley is leading BS (Jeremy is back in 6th), and Erik Strelnieks is in 2nd in SS in a 'borrowed' car.

It was a good time out there. I think we could have battled for the win in AS, but I was way too hung over on Saturday and Drew and I both coned away our best runs on each day. I think it only was possible because all the fast guys were coning, because we seemed to be about half a second off on each day. We'll figure it out though

That's what I was saying......maybe it's too complicated to compete with all of the darn rules/weights/sub-rules/updates/backdates/interpretations....etc
in those classes.
