I recommend driving the vehicle 60-100 miles on fwy after performing any of the above. Most smog, repair shops or even auto parts stores can check monitors at no charge if you ask nicely

KEEP IN MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!: For vehicles model year '96-'00 you can have 2 monitors "Not Ready" and still pass, HOWEVER on '01-newer you may only have 1 "Not Ready" in order to pass.
I'm having this problem right now!!!!! And my dad says it wasn't because he disconnected the battery smh...so I will need to drive more than the 105miles I just put on my '03 I guess until I get atleast one of the sections "complete". There's 2 that are not ready

Sry for the late response... It would take roughly 60-100 to set 99% of monitors. There is no repair, simply drive.
Best of Luck!

Can someone PM me a place that is lenient on visuals in North County San Diego?

Took it to a place in Escondido and it questioned my SPT intake (but I had the CARB # on a sticker in the glove box) so then that part was cool.
He failed me because of my Borla headers. They even have a CARB # on them, but they are only valid for an 02-03 and my car is an 05!

The rest of my mods are:

Perrin catless uppipe
Invidia catted downpipe and N1 street exhaust
HKS EVC 5 boost controller
Perrin crank pulley
Borla headers
SPT intake
TurboXS stage 2 map
Greddy turbo timer

thanks

Gutted stock up and down, 3rd cat in place, stock exhaust.
1 step colder plugs
AP Protuned Stage 2

Think I will pass? Anyone successful?

Hey guys, I'm in need of a smog tech that'll pass my car. I just got a new job and have to have a Cali driver's license (currently rocking Washington plates and driver's license). I'd rather not have to take my car back to stock and unfortunately, the guy I was going to go to got popped by the BAR a couple days ago and he's shut down. Please PM me if you have any leads in the IE.

Thanks!

I have heard of people passing with the 3rd catt. I just wonder if your colder plugs will be ok? Why did you go colder plugs on a stage 2? I'm at like stage 3 or 4 and I make over 370whp on stock plugs. I tried colder plugs and they made my car misfire after awhile.

Default Passing in San Diego

Hi Guys,
I have a 06 STi in NY which has SPT intake/exhaust, 4" DP and a high flow cat with a fairly conservative stage 2 tune. I can pass emissions in NY because we just use the OBD II test, but I'm worried I'd fail miserably in California (I'm moving to San Diego for a job). Any recommended places to go that would fudge a little bit when passing smog? Or should I bite the bullet and have it retuned with the stock exhaust?

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the feed back, I hear you get 2 chances to pass. I guess I can try one with the 3rd cat.

I went with the colder plugs under the suggestion of the guy that made my custom map, Tim Bailey. Guy is a genius so I trust him. I think it is to keep knock away. No misfires in 2 years.

That's great. I think part my problem was I didn't drive my car hard and that maybe lead to the plugs fouling. If you notice your idle getting bad or like mine my car would stall when I came to a stop. Change back to the OEM plugs(not the ones at autozone, etc.. they list the wrong plug and the gap is too big. .44 instead of the .32 we need) and it fixed everything.

I met Tim at Yimi's when he was having a tuning day about 5yrs ago. I saw him tune about 7 cars and we had a chance to talk for awhile. I always tell people to log their cars after a tune. Because all "pro tuners" aren't PROs.

When is the last time you logged your car or checked your learning view? I'm right here in Carson I could help you with that. Bryan

Okay, so I didn't pass, but I didn't actually fail. The tech was unable to hold my revs steady at 2500rpm. It wandered from 2300-2700 and the machine aborted the test. The guy said it might be a vacuum leak somewhere but he wasn't sure. Idle and drivability is fine, but I did swap out the AEM CAI for the stock box just before the test to pass visual (which I did). Any ideas on where I should start with this?

With a catted Cobb dp under a stock shield, what are my chances of passing? Any good leads on a local station in IE or OC? Thx guys.

NM guys, just passed smog this morning. Full Cobb turboback catted, stock mode map.
HC - idle/2500: Max/meas 100/79/130/42

Might consider selling now . Pm me if interested. Car only has 39K miles, used for local tracks only, full susp and safety equipment. See my post history.

^^^ Do you mean you flashed it back to the stock map? Why did you do that? Did you think it wouldn't pass with the OTS stage 2 map? I wouldn't drive it on the stock map with the full turboback but I guess if you do it right before they test it they don't rev it high enough to get it into boost.

PASSED

16g
STi TMIC
AP ver1
TXS catless uppipe

I went ahead and slapped on 2 cats and flashed to stock setting just to make sure. Went on a 30mi cruise before I took her in.

The tech did mention that he saw a code (P0442) but passed me anyway..said it might just be a loose gas cap.

Correct, it was on the stock mode map just long enough for the test. Now back to the track map for upcoming events.

Finally passed!

Stock down pipe with cut stock turbo heat shield
Stock STI exhaust
Cat less Perrin uppipe
HKS EVC boost controller
Flashed to Cobb Stage 1 ACN

I had to get a new rear O2 sensor from the dealer because I've yet to get mine out of my Invidia down pipe! Tried heat and tons of PB blaster, probably going to use a nut splitter so I can put my DP back on.

Make sure to drive about 60-100 miles after having the battery disconnected or replacing any sensors because they will come back on the test as "Not Ready" which will result in a fail.

I need to get a smog check for my WRX by the beginning of November. I'm looking for some of the more lenient shops in Orange County. If anyone can help point me in the right direction, send me a PM.

I got my car smogged 2 years ago in NorCal and I passed with just the factory downpipe installed. I left on my FMIC, headers, catless uppipe, short ram and catback. I'm trying to do the same again this time around. The shop I went to were very chill and didn't care about visual.

Any help/info would be great. Thanks everyone!

Default Intercooler needed to pass smog...

I have an Injen front mount intercooler on my 05 STI and I need a stock one to smog it. Anyone know of a used one I could pick up? I know this is a real pain but I dont mind trading mine away or something like that. Thanks.

Hey, just registered here because I am thinking of getting a 2005 Sti...thought I would offer help to anyone with a smog question. I work as an assistant at a referee center, if anyone has questions go ahead and reply here or send me a PM, I can ask the referee or respond based on my knowledge if I am not at work.

Keep in mind my responses will not be what you can pass with at X shop, but what is technically smog legal, considering that is all I deal with at the referee lol.
