Default to build up my 2.0 or to build a 2.5

Ok so im thinking about doing engine work right now.

Right now i just have a vf30, sti injectors, greddy front mount, utec ecu, greddy turbo back exhaust.

So what i was thinking is to build my 2.0 with new internals and run a 20g or somthing just a little bigger and try to push 350hp

Or to build a hybrid
get like a stage 2 block and use my wrx heads and run a gt30r and try to push the 430 range

What do you guys think i should do

O yea a jdm 6speed or ppg gearsets are going in very soon so the trans isnt an issue

IMO get the 2.5 You can make horsepower, but you cant make torque, all you can do is enhance what you already have. it will cost more but id rather have the 2.5, much more drivable.

Someone once told me " Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races".

I understand what you mean.

I guess what im trying to say is if you have a broader flatter torque curve the car will have more get up and go. the less torque and more peaky power band the more you will have to beat the hell out of the car to have any fun.

Im just a sucker for 2.5 swaps

I think 2.0's have a lot of potential. You should see what the boys across the pond are doing with them. But whatever floats your boat. I like the 2.slow's.

cheers

The 2.5 is alot more Daily driver friendly. Your off boost power will be night and day.

if you build a 2.0, YOU WILL ONLY BE WISHING YOU HAD A 2.5

Do it right the first time around and youll save money in the long run!

Open < Semi-closed. Go for the 2.5L. You would be surprised at the cost. The 2.0L will cost just as much as a stock 2.5L which will hold 500 hp reliably all day....no point in building it.

I had your question about 5 months ago. I'm in the process of building my 2.0l. It is WAY more expensive to build the 2.0 vs buying a 2.5 shortblock and calling it a day. Just my machine shop bill is 2k.... the shortblock alone is cheaper than that, never mind pistons, rods, cams, etc... I can tell you that the 430awhp you want out of the 2.5 I WILL make on my 2.0l. NOt even really hard to do, you just have to be willing to sacrafice a little. I didn't go with the 2.5 because everyone has one. That is beyond common these days. That for me is boring.

And... my 205 is now semi closed.

Don't think the 205 isn't capable... just becasue everyone takes the easy route doesn't mean it can't be done. I'm looking to run 10.'s with my ej205.

True, but the 2.0's across the pond are running the EJ207 not the EJ205 (or at least I think that is the motor you are talking about). EJ207 is definitely superior to the EJ205 motor.

If you really want the TQ, why not go EZ30 or EZ30R?

The 207 is a great motor. I think the EJ20G shortblock is the money tho. And nothing wrong with the 205 if it's built. It's pretty similar to the STI Version 3 motor only better in that it's end thrust bearing'd. The heads on the 205 are supposed to be similar to the casting of the EJ20G heads. Not too bad. They have room to be messed with at least.

cheers

2.5 build up is where it's at, but you need to be worrying about that tranny and all that power she's going to need to be able to handle...
