Default differences between USDM STI motor and JDM FXT STI motor

I'm looking into a replacement motor for my 04 STI. I found the JDM forester STI motors for pretty cheap. Im just wondering if this is the exact same motor or not. Does anyone know if there is any difference?

When I was researching this awhile ago, all the info I found showed they were the same. However, at some point, gruppe-s mentioned in a thread that the jdm crankshaft may be stronger but there was never any conclusive evidence showing this.

Which JDM Forester STI motor??

There is the original 2-liter JDM Forester STI motors, and there is the current JDM Forester STI motors. The original 2-liter Forester STI motors are standard WRX 2-liter motors (not JDM STI, JDM WRX). The current JDM STI Forester motors are 2.5-liter Forester XT motors (USDM). So if you are buying that, you are buying a motor that was exported to Japan and importing it back to America. I'd be somewhat surprised if it's cheaper than just buying an STI/WRX/Legacy 2.5-liter shortblock here.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

The motor I am looking at is a 2.5L longblock. I dont want to take a step down when I replace my STI motor. Do they have the same pistons, heads, cams, valves etc?
