Thumbs up AWD, a kick in the arse to all other 4wd and such.

Kinda old news, but thought I post it.
I was going up to Snoqualmie summit to go snowboarding on Saturday. no chains...
The road was pretty slick once you start seeing the snow in the trees. We're all going at about 45mpg. This guy in a new Celica drives past me, looks, and slows down, comes around my car, goes ahead of me. Must be a Toyota thing. Next thing I notice, this huge Dodge Ram is spinning out of control, inches away from the Celica, the truck almost clips me, I swerved but kept it's traction. 5-6 cars around me are sideways. The truck goes head on into the rail, vaporizing his brushguard, PIAAs and right fender.
Moral of the story? Can't beat a Subaru in the snow.
Scared the living hell out of me tho.

Subaru+Snow = Perfection. That's why I first bought Subaru.

The question for me is does Subaru+Snow+Kumho = Disaster? I guess I'll find out.

I was drifting my car in a empty ski resort parking lot last week, wicked fun. My WRX w/potenza re950's had mass traction going up and coming down the mountain, not a problem the whole time. There was however a jackass in his BMW 330i with chains who kept spinning out in front of me , after the third time he pulled off the road and let me pass.

I went over the pass late Friday afternoon and got to sit for an hour just below the summit while DOT cleared a jack knifed semi ... while waiting ... most interesting ... many cars slipping, sliding ... including two other subarus ... both outbacks with all season tires that experienced some slipping upon starting ... nothing like many other vehicles near us ..

with the toyo garits (observe high performance) ... my legacy never slipped at all going through the snow and ice ... and once they cleared the semi ... was mostly one lane with many cars and trucks to the left and right and in the center lane as we drove through and around the mess ... am also suspicious that the DMS golds have some role in the handling and solid feel the car has through the slick road conditions ...

Yeah - I wait for snow in town to show off .

We live on a hill, and when it snows in town all the euro cars and expensive Japanese metal is parked at the bottom (and my car is about the cheapest in the lot).

The only cars that make it back are Subies.

And it is forcast to snow here tomorrow...

Outback + Blizzack + Primitve Skid plates = SNOW BA-HA !!!!!

I have a ball in the winter making SUVs (with all season tires) look silly. Doens't matter if they have a V-8, if they can't get the torque stuck to the ground.

(and the Primitive Skid plates mean I don't worry much about what is buried in the snow)

man those OEM michelins sucked though...

Happy Winter--
