Default driveline noise

How much is normal? It's been years since I owned a Subaru. I don't remember the Brat making this much noise. Just whiring, humming and assorted things. I'll admit I like it most of the time just not sure it's "normal". Makes more noise than my 93 Nissian 4x4 with 200K on it.. or so it seems. Is this a product of me sitting a couple feet closer to the parts than in the truck? The only thing I feel might have a problem is that it's VERY hard to downsift into first. I'll get that checked next dealer visit.
Anyway the reason this is posted here: Would changing to an synthetic lube help lower the noise level somewhat? If so where? Front diff? trans? rear?
Or should I just str8 pipe the thing so I can't hear it?

Hello, I think this may help you out.

It is in the Warranty Issues & SOA Problems section, it is pretty much talking about the deceleration noise that many are having.
