Unhappy I knew it was going to happen . . .

I just got my 4th ticket today. Within the year! As a matter of fact, I'm still in the process of paying another ticket I just got maybe a month ago, and today, ANOTHER one! Well, I guess it's bye-bye license. It was great to have had a chance to meet everyone at the local meets. Looks like I won't be able to attend any more future SCIC get-togethers. Judgement day is in February, so I guess I have until then to enjoy my car.

Depressed And Soon To Be Licenseless,

4 in a year?? Bummer.
How long is the suspension?

You're not totally out of it: you can be the official co-driver of SCIC.

4 in a year! different places, times, and cops? How far above the limit's were you? Aren't there classes you can take to soften the punishment?

I hate california. I have given up driving over the speedlimit. I take the 5MPH over that is pretty much allowed and then nothing else. Its WAY too easy to tagged by cops 4 times a year. I have gotten 3 this year, managed to get 1 dismissed and am working on the second one dismissed but im stuck with traffic school on my third one here. They need to extend it to like 4 per month. Especially for violations that are like 10 or 15mph over that just shouldnt count period. I think the only thing they should be able to get you for on speeding is 25MPH+. Anything else is just stupid! There is too much room for variance like for example their radar could be 5MPH fast and my spedo could be 5mph slow and I could be going 5mph over what I think is the speed limit and that right there is 15MPH over with even knowing it and then BAM you get a ticket for going the speedlimit! What kind of country do we live in????

I feel for you, it sucks. I hate going to court too thats gotta be the worst part of it takes forever.

I figure because my car stands out and 'cuz I'm black. Well, not really, but my car DOES stand out. Or maybe it's my obsessive nature to drive fast? Either way, I probably deserved it.

My second one was the best one though: 98 in a 65!

Dang, that sucks, man... I hate to say it, but maybe you should pull the race card. When I rode with you, it didn't seem like you were driving super fast. Do you like to race around in traffic or something? Maybe there are a lot of cops where you live? Seriously, though, I think this is probably a combination of your driving too fast on busy city roads, and an abundance of racist cops. What was the skin color of the 4 different cops who stopped you? I bet they wouldn't have been so harsh if you were an upper-middle class white boy driving a Mustang...

Jesus Jason. Maybe you should've invested in a radar detector or something. Well, hope to hear from ya again. Take it easy and good luck!

Dont think it woulda made a difference. Atleast now where I live. They seem to think that because im white and under the age of like 30 that I am automatically a drug user. So almost everytime ive been stopped they have given me friggen drug tests! Funny thing is I havnt done a single one in my life. Its rather insulting when they accuse me of being on drugs! I had one cop tell me that he didnt believe me when I told him no because he was a "narcotics expert". I couldnt control myself and busted up laughing then I started being cocky after that I told him he was a moron and that he should go back to narcotics school because he obviously failed!!!

Lets look at that rader detector comment another way:

Do you have a radar detector?
If so, which one?
If so, do you use it?

Inquiring minds want to know,

I've gotten two speeding tickets in my life, both were the same day in different states while driving cross country solo. Got nailed both times with the speedo nailed at "Mitsubishi" (3/4 of an inch passed 140) Both were very cool cops and the tickets were written as 99mph tickets. One of them even sat me in his 5.0 and lectured me for a while This was back in 92 or so, and my dumb-butt decided to dodge the fines for a while. Finally had to pay them when entering the service

The Starion was the schiznit in it's day! A little over double the stock hp at the wheels running 18psi boost.

Radar Detectors only work if the cops waiting in the bushes.... Most of the time they are right behind you.

As for your 4th ticket, that sucks ass Jason, I don't know what to say!

I drive 100 MPH everyday, and had a helicopter over my car, but I haven't got caught yet!!

What Undertow said is especially true on the freeways. Maybe even more so in San Diego than up north, though that may be a factor of traffic. You can even (if you're lucky) get passed by a CHP officer if you're going 80, though I wouldn't push it.
Things that catch the CHP's collective eye:
rapid and erratic lane changes (aka driving like an ass);
tailgating and flashing of lights which is usually followed by the above in an irate passing maneuver; and
passing a CHP officer
Utah highway patrol seems to take a similar view of "safe" speeding on freeways. Not so with Nevada (though the fines used to be smaller). Back east=bad freeway news from what I've heard.

City streets are a whole different story, and I do my best to never give them an excuse to pull me over for anything. With that said, I drove my '90 Corrado without a front plate from day one here and was NEVER pulled over for it. The Corrado is small and black and apparently does not register on the optical nerves of most law enforcement, especially with the stock (very quiet) exhaust.

Default two words...

slow down.

Ever realize that no matter how much you weave in and out of traffic, the old granpaa ends up where he's going the same time you get there....that grandpa is me. I feel no sympathy for you...

Thumbs down

Jason,
I love you brother, and I feel sorry for you

but

The only way to get four tickets in a year is to be completely clueless to your surroundings. There are so many tip-offs right in front of your eyes when a cop is in the area. So if your senses are so dull you can't pick up the presence of 5-0, then, brother, I don't want you on the same street I'm driving on.

The other thing is that cops rarely ticket straight speed. Heck, everybody in California speeds. You pretty much have to be standing out from the crowd to get pulled over. The cops target the driver that is changing lanes every 3 seconds, tailgating, causing other to brake or swerve. Again, I'd rather not share the road with those types.

The roads are full of the aged, the drunk, the soccer moms, the clueless, the pissed-at-their-girlfriend, the sleepy, and the psychotic... all driving in their cars with no brakes, bald tires, loose ball joints, fouled plugs, and no oil. I don't need to have to look out for the Ricky Racers too.

Pick carefully the places to drive like a maniac; there is nothing to gain by racing all the time.

I drive 80-85mph..sometimes 90+ on the freeway, but I try to be very smooth. I use my blinker every time I change lanes, and I do it smoothly. I also try to makesure the people I am passing are aware that I am there. I watch for faces in mirrors and stuff like that. I have been driving fairly "fast" for 4 years, and I have never gotten a ticket. Course, my green four door 2.2L might help make my car look more passive. I also don't speed more than 5mph on city streets. I dunno...works for me.

Jason, you have not had a good year have you? 4 tickets, broken rim, and a low alcohol tolerence. Damn. I bet you have a New years resolution. Best of luck man.

Hate to say it - forget the race card - he said he was tagged at 98 in a 65 - he deserved the tickets by the sound of it.

IF the first 3 tickets didn't make him slow down - *shrug* maybe better off not on the road.

We make a concious decision when we break the law - if we get rumbled we pay the price - and if we get rumbled a few times you KNOW the cop is going to have less sympathy when you get caught again and the last 3(!) tickets this year come up on his computer.

Do the crime - do the time.

Sorry to hear it dude - but you made your choices.

Actually, only ONE of the four tickets I've recieved was something that was worth getting: the 98 in 65. The other three are stupid little things.

The first one: 75 in a 65. Woopee . . .

The second: 98 in a 65. This one was good . . .

The third (which I'm still paying for): Ran red light (So the cop says . . .)

And the fourth: 51 in a 35

But I have an idea that just may get me out of the hole. I'll go to court and pay the ticket, then ask to contest it. Then I'll wait for the court date. I can then postpone 10 days prior to the date, wait for the next court date, do it again, and by that time, I'll be eligable to go to traffic school again! Afterwards, a radar dedecter will be taken into SERIOUS consideration.

Or, I could just move to South Dakota and change my name to Jack Michaelson and live on an indian reservation. Hmmm . . . Nah!

Hanging On A Thread Of Hope,
-Jason SDC

wont work, traffic school is from the date of the offense, not the court date.
Were they all radar?
