Post Steering wheel change/air bag removal

I think someone has posted this in the General Forum, but for (604) area....

The big ass, mother-of-all steering wheel is really bothering me. I want something much smaller than the stock size. Does any know if it is legal to do remove the driver side air bag and put in an aftermarket steering wheel? And how would it affect the warranty?
Has any one done this? Any pics?

Thanx for any input.

Hey, wrx31, hows it going? Going to the meet?

Anyways, what you wanna do is illegal. Don't you like the leather wrapped wheel?

The removal of the air bag is legal, but I believe you do have to get documentation from ICBC; I could be wrong, best to check with ICBC. The removal of the airbag will not void the warranty but I do believe there are certain shops that are willing to do that.

Cool

Howdy...

Airbag removal is easy....

The problem is that most aftermarket steering wheel hub adaptors dont support the use of your horn or cruise.

You have to have them machined ...

This is what I am doing for a few people.

I changed the stock wheel to a Sparco one... looks neat.

There are two screws to remove the airbag..and one nut to remove the wheel... simple. *of course u have to disconnect the battery.. and undo the plugs*.

Fitting the new wheel with an un modified hub adaptor is a bugger though... you have to lose cruise.. horn.. turn signal cancellation...

What you need is part number 15NE981 1 button or 15NE982 2 buttons from Demon Tweeks Sparco pages, page 157 on the road tuning catalogue, horn buttons for Sparco wheels. Wont help with the cruise but will give you horns back.

Attaches to the rear of the wheel using the hub mounting bolts (6 small bolts) and they protrude above the centre of the wheel.

Hey Rudypoo, I am doing fine, thanx. I will go to the meet. BTW, how's Impressive Computers? Hope you and Jimmy are doing well. (did he pass the finals?) Call me sometime....

Yahh, I like the leather steering wheel, a Sparco one, please. The stock one is way too big....like turning a U Hual truck.

Hello Subie Gal, well done. Did you change the steering wheel yourself? Did your car have an airbag? If so, how did you do it?

And Jay.... help is so far away.....
