Post Scratching of Subie Windows, does tint hold up well?

A buddy of mine has an older Legacy and his driverside window is all scratched to hel! on the iniside from prolonged "normal' use.

My brand new STI windows are fine but when I wash the car or it rains I get a verry similiar smear pattern in the middle of the window after I roll it down and back up.

I don't want the window to get scratched like his and I want to tint my windows. So the question is will the tint hold up under normal conditions and is this a common problem with Subarus frameless windows?

Obviously if I get the same scratching he did tint wont hold up, and be the least of my problems!
... and I did search, so if its out there I missed it

i have a 2000 rs with 35% all the way around and only my back windows are scratched.. funny thing is i hardly use my back windows.

the tint is holding up but you can see the scratches right threw it. The tint is about 3years old.

i guess it is a common thing because all my friends cars have it. 03's 04's

The scratching should only be on the outside of the window (I've never seen it affect tint but the tint will make it stand out more). This is a common problem with the older Imprezas and the only solution is to pull your door panels off and clean the felt piece that rubs against the window when it rolls up or down.

I have huge scratches on my back windows.

I don't know if they are on the tint or on the windows.

i've only had my windows tinted for 6 months now (15% on the sides, 5% on the back).... I do notice the smear on the front windows after i wash my car (mainly from water getting down on the felt or roller) but I have not noticed any scratches yet. Really hope it doesn't leave any in the years to come.

My driver's side window is etched on the outside, but not inside. Also on my passenger front, but not as bad. It's due to the build-up of crap on those soft brush pads that the window slides up and down on.

The only way to try to prevent the etching is to periodically take off the door panels and get to the brush pads and clean them off. When I cleaned mine a long time ago the build up was so bad that it was pretty much like caked mud.

There's a write-up somewhere on here or on scoobymods on how to clean the pads. You could try that Eastwood Window Polish Kit for the existing scratches. Some guy on Autopia.org gave it a shot a while back and had some success after going against the provided instructions.

edit: I've had tinted windows as long as I've owned the car and have never had any scratches on the inside window where the tint is.

Hey thanks a lot... I didn't know if the scratches were on the outside or in side.

You would think subaru would come up with a better design, I don't know of any other cars with this problem unless something actually breaks.

Guess maybe it is fixed on newer MYs but Im still a little skeptical.
