hey all... i've got a friend who knows how to work with fiberglass and we have both been thinking of making simple pieces to add on to our cars (he drives a civic) The problem is that he wants to buy the materials needed to make these pieces in bulk to keep the costs down to a minimum... so i was wondering if anyone out there would want to buy these home-made pieces and how much you would pay for such items (front lip for ex)...
of course we would make the pieces for ourselves first and then take some pictures to show you how they would look... this is just an idea, please be kind and give me some feedback...

orbiter:
how come? my car is bone stock man (stock intake, stock exhaust, stock ummm pretty much everything internal )but yeah i think i will go to the meet... dont know what to expect tho cause it's my first time btw i have a very limited budget to spend on my car (currently $0.00) and dont know much about cars so my car knowledge is bone stock too! as for the fiberglass stuff... i've drawn a blue print for the front lip (not gonna scan it cause i dont wanna be laughed at... haha) the design is quite simple, just straight edges... hey wrx55(i'm just as new as you.. but newer.hehe
)I've seen quite a few Imprezas with the US bumper.. and I'm planning on getting one soon(anybody have any suggestion ?). Would you be making a lip that'd go with the US bumper(possibly a V6 lip replica? or i'm way over my head). Or better yet, do something about the flat Grill. Right now I'm shopping around(and slowly saving up) for exterior parts.. not gonna be doing performance mods soon. Anyways, I'd love to know how far this plan goes with you guys, and keep posting on updates ! |

hey DEVO
if you are looking for a front bumper, DONT get it from the dealership, they are a rip off... i got mine from dondocksteader and they charged me a price that i'm too embarrassed to say (4figures)... i'm so pissed of at them still... i'm gonna try to do something about my grille... maybe cut it and get another type of mesh for it... you going to the meet on the 27th? (want more newbies to go ) |

JEAH ~
I guess I'm in for the meet.. heeheeh GS116: SWEEET ! Just what i need, some choices HOO YEA.. (I'm pretty high right now.. had some sugar about 30 mins ago) wrx55: Yeah... I know Dealer bumper swaps are crazy. But consider you'll only get a fibreglass bumper without any lights for under 1k.. err. 1800(richmond subaru) is still too much. Right now looking at 1400(beg to differ :/) I really want to know what you and your civic buddy can do with your fibreglass magic! |

Talking of fibreglass
anybody in local area can replicate V6 lip or V5/6 front girll ? wrx55 : can your buddy do it ? or it's limited to simple designs.. I'm in for those if anybody can actually make reaplicas (i also speak for clement, he wants them too if the price is right) aight, I'm out |

DEVO:
well the thing is that to make fiberglass pieces, one would need to make a really detailed smooth mastermold in order to get a good piece out of it... to replicate something you would need to press the original piece into a mold and then carve/sand out the finishes... so basically it is quite a long operation (and safety is an issue too because of the fumes the compounds give out)... what my friend can do is use small simple straight pieces molds (without complex curves) and piece them together to make a lip for ex... there are professionals out there that can replicate fiberglass pieces and can do a great job for you... but to tell you the truth my friend had his experience with fiberglass from making small model pieces so i dont think he can deal with what you're asking... sorry to disappoint you! |

wrx55: hehe, that's alright, simple designs are pretty cool too, I can't really comprehend without seeing it in operation, so i guess we'll discuss this more later on
