Serial adaptors can be hit or miss depending on the adaptor. Some work well and some work horribly. A serial PCM card is the best option but I have been using an adaptor for the last couple of years without issue. The latest Hydras and Vista work best with true serial or the PCM card.

Thanks,
Phil

try to find one that has a low speed capability on it. there is actually a thread that mentions a few brands on it. mine is compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 and is made by IOGEAR.

I had issues initially with my usb to serial conversion cable. I ended up changing the com port speed from 19200 to 9600 (the device manager in windows control panel). No issues since.

Yes that usually works best to run 9600 with a USB adaptor. With Windows XP I like the ATEN USB serial cable the best. I simply plugged it in an windows already had the drivers preinstalled. It doesn't work so hot on Vista with a lot of curruption to the maps. I can see this so I know when it happens but if you have Vista or a new Hydra (May 2007 +) it is highly recommended you use a true RS232 serial port or the PCMCIA Serial card.

Thanks,
Phil

Phil, is there any particular PCMCIA Serial Card that works best? My IBM Thinkpad only has USB ports but I will go buy a PCMCIA Card if needed. The new 07 STI units will work best with a PCMCIA or a true serial port correct?
BTW: How is Hydra doing producing the 07 units?

I ordered a PCMCIA card but haven't tested it yet so but I believe it's a Starcom version you can get from compuusa.com. I know Hydra EMS has one on a Vista laptop that works perfectly.

No 07 units shipping yet but you're on the list so quit bugging me We are getting close to releasing some units for testing purposes.

Thanks,
Phil
