Just wondering if any one out there has the minnam turbo kit on there RS. If so, which stage, and what else have you done to your car. Right now I'm totally stock but the 1st stage sounds good. I was wondering if I would have to do any other mods to the car or can it take the first stage well being otherwise totally stock. My other question is who did the install and how much did it come out to total. AND finally, is it worth it, how do you like it?

if you gonna go with the minnam turbo...you mine as well spend a little more to get the Stage 2...save up a bit longer to get it...but its pretty pricey..it will prob be around 10K including all parts and install...that is if your car is a MY00 cuz the MY00 you have to use the Tech II standalone thats why its so expensive..I think that the same turbo for the 98-99 models is prob like 1500 bux cheaper....but yeah...minnam says this one guy from NY clocked a Quarter mile in 12.9 with the stage two...thats pretty DAYAM fast

to run the boost of a stage 2, i heard you also have to upgrade your clutch. the tranny is also fairly weak, and you might have problems

Yeah, the reason I don't wanna go the stage 2 route is because with the extra power I'd need to spend mega money...clutch, injectors, transmision and so on. Since I don't race I thought the stage 1 was the better deal for good(not great) power while keeping the price down. I was wondering if I'd have to change the injectors even for the stage 1. So anyone out there only have the stage 1 setup? My car is the 2000 model.

why not go with a cam, intake, exhaust and a techII? it's will be a lot cheaper then a stage 1 turbo, and you will probally get close to the same performance numbers.

Tec II ain't cheap! I think it costs about the price of a Stage I alone! it's alot more useful for a turbo car than N/As.

bender: where in the world did you get the information that CAM/INTAKE/EXHAUST and TEC II will be as fast as the stage 1 turbo kit? do u have any dyno sheets to back that up? yes..it's cheaper but it won't do nothing!
that's kinda funny =) TEC II doesn't even increase hp! it stand-alone computer which controls the fuel/timing/ignition (very important) u should be LUCKY if u made 1/4 of the power of the stage 1 with that setup..oh well OOPPSS I DID IT AGAIN... where's my orweee?? orweee..back me up on this! |

i read in the tech board a while ago about someone wanting to mod there 00rs, but i can't say personally for sure that one is better. but when you think about it,stage1 is about 3-5psi boost, isn't it? about 40 or so horses,so 200 horsepower engine.i'm sure a good cam and some other mod you can come close to 200hp out of a N/A eng. hey while your here..any word on a new album? love your last one

Bender,
What's the price difference between a Stage 1 and Stage 2? The reason I ask is that if you only go with a Stage 1 and then spend additional money on cams, etc, wouldn't you just be better off paying the extra dough for a stage 2 that can safely (with a TEC-II) take you to 300+hp? Think about it. Peace, MB |

I don;t think Minnam makes Stage Is anymore. OK where is Minnam anyways? the carmodifications.com or wutever it's called sells their tubro kit for quite a bit of mulah.

Minnam is still in business, they're the ones supplying Shiv with the turbokit in his Vishnu kits. And I believe they DO still make the stage 1, its just the same as the 2 but without the intercooler and some other stuff...essentially the same thing.

markus, i'm not saying buy a stage 1 and then buy cams, etc. what i'm saying is to buy the cams, and stuff, INSTEAD of a stage 1 turbo. stage 2 would be a little different.
keiho, do you know the price difference between a stage 1 and a stage 2 turbo that minnam is selling? and are they selling the vishnu kits here? |

Call Minnam and ask them for the exact pricing. I vaguely remember stage 1 being about 4000 or so and the stage 2 at 6000. These are just rough numbers, actual numbers I haven't a clue! And no, you'll have to buy the Vishnu kit from Shiv and Shiv alone AFAIK.

Hey Guys,
I'm in the lower mainland this week and I happend to drop by Minnam's today and very briefly talked to Victor(?). I asked him what the prices would be for a Stage 1 and Stage 2 assuming just the turbo parts with no electronics, etc. I told him I was thinking of buying just the kit and getting the TEC-II electonics. I was hoping to see what money I might be able to save instead of buying the whole turbo kit from Vishnu-Performance. Victor told me that it would be C$4200 for Stage 1 and C$6300 for Stage 2. IMO those prices are out too lunch since I can buy it cheaper from Shiv for cheaper than Minnam will sell it seperately. Maybe Victor didn't understand my question and gave me the price of the whole kit with their Field SFC, etc. Who knows? I can't tell you how disappointed I was once he told me C$6300. IMO that's a rip-off. If that's the price he wants to quote, I'll seriously be looking for other options. If you include the cost of a TEC-II from Shiv, you're looking at more that C$10k for the whole shebang, versus about C$9k and getting the whole package from Shiv. On a more positive note, they had a silverhorm metallic RS (with WRC wing, lowered, etc.) parked out front that had the turbo in the car, and a wicked front lip spoiler that matched with our Canadian bumper. He couldn't remember who manufacturered the lip, but I left him my business card and asked him to find out for me. Cheers, MB |
