Post Fastest Legacy in ONTARIO?

I have probably the fastest and best handling Subaru Legacy Turbo in Ontario outside of rally cars.

0-60 in 6.9 sec
Top speed 220km/h

I have a STI modified ECU, boosting at 18psi with no intercooler though. No ENGINE MODS. I have been driving this car for 100,000km with no reliability problems. I also have Bilstein shocks, Intrax springs lowering by 2 inches, Strut tower bars, RAMAIR filters, 16in wheels, cross drilled brakes.

I don't think any 2.5RS can come close especially the modified ones.

Ever driven an RS, especially one with some handling mods and power adders? I'm not denying the legacy is a good car or anything, but it doesn't take a whole lot of extra power to get an RS to run 0-60 in 6.9 (especially when you consider it does it stock in mid 7's).

Haven't seen any. Are they all hiding? There may be just a lot of talk.
Remember that the best a stock RS has done is 0-60 in 8s.

haha. you're too funny man ;-)

Anyways, SCC got 7.7 0-60 on their STOCK RS (My math aint that good, but thats definately less than 8 seconds).

Second, 6.9 sec isnt all that impressive and something to be bragging about. The HKS impreza did 6.2 sec (and its not nearly as powerful as some of the other monsters out there - Like Ver III's car, Adam Bloom, infact ANYONE who has a turbo RS could easily beat your legacy).

Sorry man......

Sorry to sound like a 'Doubting Thomas' here, but how can you possibly run 18psi without an intercooler?

I can't remember how it's calculated, but my intuition tells me at 18psi you'll have extremely hot intake temperatures (enough to create lots of problems).

To all those that replied:

I only claim to have the fastest LEGACY in ONTARIO. I know of Impreza RS's in the US which are faster especially the HKS one or anyone with a Turbo.
I have not seen one in CANADA. If there is any here, they must be hiding.
You can run 18psi without intercooling, by the way.
Not bad considering my car is a 1991 Turbo, and it has always been reliable. Everything is still OE even the turbo. The HKS car has had some startup problems when it was being tested by Car and Driver and others such as the SCC Impreza have had other electronic problems due to ECU manipulation. To be fast and reliable is very difficult especially if the mods are not well made.

mikeyhsu,

The 91-94 Legacy turbos are fun cars for sure... One of our club members (Ottawa Subaru Club) rallies a 92 Legacy Turbo with full roll cage and the car can corner like crazy but he hasn't done anything to the engine since he wants to remain in Production GT class... If he would bump up his PSI, he would be in the open class and he's get his ass whipped by McGeer or Sprongel...

For the Impreza's case, if you meet up with with VIII's, he'd would simply kick your ass (and mine too)... He's got an EJ20 tranplant. His 0-60 are about 4.4 to 4.8 seconds...

Give us most new 99 or 2000 RS owners a chance to start to modify our RS and we'll talk again... You've had your car for a least 3 years (since you put on 100k on it) and have modified quite a bit...

You should come out to the track days that the Toronto club organizes at Shannonville...lots of fun.....

To the "fastest Legacy in Ontario"...

that maybe the case, but come out here to Cow-town and I'm sure either one of my Legacys will be able to open a can of "whoop-a$$" on your's. Even my '98 Legacy L w/ an auto trans can do it... or you could try going against my '99 Legacy 2.5GT-tt!

18 PSI with NO engine mods for 100,00 km? - maybe your gauge isn't calibrated...

There are pressurized Impreza in Ontario. I was for a test drive in one at the Voyageur rally in Bancroft in '98, & the guy that did that one built a bigger one for himself. He already replied to your post, though...

Robin,

boost is free in Production GT.

i heard there are couple Impreza in Toronto that have done engine swap...or at least Minnam Turbo Kit or sth...(and so does here in Vancouver)
I don't think you should compare a T/C engine w/ a N/A engine...if u win all RS then if one day u lose...just think that maybe the RS has a 100 shot NOS...if that will make u feel better...
did u try to beat a Kawasski 750 w/ ur 6.9 sec Legacy Turbo? i guess u should try man...if u are ahead of him...u might has got the fastest Legacy in Ont...but if u lose...don't worry...B4 engine swap is the way to win...
btw, 18psi of boost w/o any intercooler...have u ever rebuilt ur turbo?

To Robin,
I have actually had this car for 6 years. I actually would like to participate in Lap days that you organize but Shannonville is kind of far, maybe I can plan for it.
To all the others,
I know that Tom McGeer used a Legacy for rallying years ago and he had unlimited boost. I think he did 24 psi using a stock engine. The EJ22 engine in the Legacy turbo has reinforced pistons, engine block, larger fuel pump, bigger injectors... all designed to deal with the turbo. That is how I can get reliability. I know if you turbocharge a normally aspired engine, you need to change pistons, heads, crank, injectors, electronics.
As it has been difficult to find a watercooled intercooler from an EJ20 (Japanese version) engine, I have not gone any further with my mods. Maybe you know someone who has one to sell. With the intercooler, I estimate the engine to be able to pump 250-260 HP at 12-13psi.

mikeyhsu,

If you're looking for an intercooler, you should contact a few people... they're actually pretty cheap...

Rejean (from Subaru Lachute) has them made for his 98 Impreza RS (EJ20 transplant) rally car.

Or contact Can-Jam (in Toronto)... they might have a some around if not I'm sure they'd have a contact...

Mikeyhsu.. you run 18psi without intercooler.. WTF, I just dont want to see the temperature of your air that go in your engine...

For the other RS in Canada. We are couple of guys modified, Like Robin said, probably Rich is one of the faster (probably the faster), also, you can find other RS that are modified..
Me, I got a custom Turbo kit, my friend Phil got a Supercharger..... Another guy in Ontario got a Supercharger also..
This is only people I know,, probably other people in canada got Turbo.. We dont know everyone..

Thumbs down

Mike,

I just spent the weekend helping get the car McGeer ran ready to go to Parry Sound.

It most definitely does NOT have unlimited boost.

McGeer's old Legacy never ran anymore than 13-15psi without melting pistons. But thats with the stock ecu. Since you are running a modified Sti, thats why you are running so much. Most Wrx's and Sti engines run at least 16psi, cuz I'm running 18 like you. I would still question the high air temps you are running and the exhaust temps. If you are still running the stock Legacy Turbo injectors, you must be running them very close to max duty cycle. I question the reliability over a period of hard abuse.

BTW: VerIII just happens to be the Subaru Rally Team chief mechanic. He's the guy you see on TV with the flat top haircut. I think I would believe what he has to say.

As for being the fastest and best handling Legacy: Here's a challenge for you....

Seeing as how we're all boasting here (some with facts mind you )...anyone know of anyone or themselves with a WRX that's faster than 12.7 IN Canada?

So far the fastest out West here in BC is Orbiter with a 12.7 pass down the quarter.

And my slow-arse RS does..ahahaha

Why the heck did you resurected this old post JoeT?? I mean its a Y2K post for crying out loud.

However, I believe the point is moot since 0-60 in 6.9 is easily do-able by a modifed NA 2.5RS.

Markus, still shaking his head that he's even answering this old relic of a post

If I did. Ooooops, sorry.

I have my 92 Legacy turbo with only AVC-R running 13psi boost and brullen full 3" turbo back exhaust system and running 6.8s in 0-100 and 14.6s in 1/4 mile.
Now the car is going to replace the EJ20G 1st Gen. Legacy turbo engine from Japan. I will post what will they run in 0-100 and 1/4 mile.

BTW, are you the guy who set up the Legacy owner Club in Waterloo few years ago??
