OMGHi2U It is the BEST feeling to see your account balance and see nothing but $0.00

Credit card balance: $0.00
Car loan balance: $0.00
student loan balance: $0.00

Savings account for new house balance: $8,000

When we got married we had the following:
credit card debt: 8,000 combined
2 car loans
13k in student loans

we have not only got out of debt, but have functioning rotating debt that we pay off each month to help build our scores for house hunting. As well as saving over 1200 a month for the new house/oh **** fund.

moving out of Omaha, getting a cheaper place, and doing what it took has been the best choice we have made in a long time.

oh, and for good mention, dumping almost 400 a month of 100% match into a 401K from Work(400 from me, 400 from work)....things are starting to finally come into focus and look THAT much better.

almost 4 years, it has been 3 years and 8 months since we started the crusade.

we got into full gear after I got my new job ad we moved to Lincoln. cut our rent in half, made a list of debt, time table.

then we stuck to it, that was hands down the hardest part. there were some times that we had to stretch the budget VERY thin...not because we didn't have money, but because we would rather put 2k towords debt than go out to eat, or do a vacation, or some other stupid idea we used to do on a whim.

now we are out of debt, buying a house, traveling like we always wanted without charging the trips to a card. we are going to mexico, ireland, tuscon, and LA this year, and we are having the time of our lives...and soon we will be starting a family.

It's like I just decided I didn't want to be a kid anymore, it was time to grow up and be responsible...so I did.

I grew up in the westside school district, my parents moved to elkhorn when I left for college and still reside ut by the river valley.

I lived on 156th for the longest time with my wife in an overpriced apatment.

I moved to lincoln, sure it's small and full of husker fans, but the job pays well, I travel to NYC, boston area, and phoenix a lot. not to mention the commissions are great and the free trip to ireland is worth it, I JUST missed out on my chance to go to Switzerland by a little bit.....now...to get my free trip to malibu this winter

Omaha i currently envy you, my wife is back in school so only working part time, naturally that has driven the CC balances back up(but nothing like they were when we met)

Combined CC Debt: > $5k
School Loan Debt: None currently, may change next month though
Car Payment: $0
Mortgage:....well we won't go there.
Medical Bills : > $1k

I hate credit cards, they are nothing more then a lame excuse for not earning things yourself, the problem is that sometimes you have no choice but to use them. As long as my Furnace/AC can make it thru the next winter we'll be fine. I also hate pushing my budget to it's extreme limits but she's only working part time right now.

Congratulations. Only 7k left in student loans for me, and 1K in CC debt. 2k of that 7k is tied up in a CD, and I still have 2 years or so of school left, of which I plan on paying for myself without loans

This is so encouraging. We're on the same plan to wipe out our debts, too. Will be there in 4 years. (I have $25K in school loans, plus a fair amount of medical bills left from my husband's cancer treatment last year - even with insurance!! Grrr.)

Congrats and thanks for being proof it can happen.

I'm currently going in for my 3rd interview with a company in a week that would increase my salary by 35-45%, so that would help move things along, for sure. Cross your fingers I get the job!!
