Default is my O2 sensor damaged?

I put a new clutch in my car two weeks ago and forgot to reconnect one of the O2 sensors... I drove around like this for a few days and was wondering why my engine check light was on and why whenever I reved above 5 I heard this 'knocking' sound... anyways I figured it out and reconnect the O2 sensor and the knocking sound disappeared. but the CEL did not... I figured it would go away in a week or so but has not... I then reset my ECU and it the light disappeared... yay... but no after I drove it 5 miles and reved it above 3 the light returns....

now I don't know what is wrong... is my O2 sensor damaged? I called the dealer to get them to check the codes for me but they said that I have to wait for a month till I can get an appointment... They also said not to worry because my CEL is not blinking.... Now that knocking sound is coming back but only at VERY high RPMs (6,000+)... so is it my O2 sensor? if it is what are the consequences of driving around with a screwed up sensor?
Please help!
thank you....

sidenote: im in Buffalo NY and during the summer I have pumped in 83 Octane all the time... but now it is my first winter with my suby. So could the knocking be caused by too low an octane?

I hope you mean 93 octane... the ECU is looking for at least 87 .
