police pullover..
how stupid of me, last night while waiting for the red, i went to the right lane and tried to cut in front of the car beside me on green, but later did i know that it was one of those big police van/truck where they store "criminals"? lights went off, took a while for the officer to come talk to me, and he asked why am i in such a rush.. i was doing everything legally though at that time, not speeding, not jumping the green light, signaled , and changed lane appropriaitely at a safe speed and distance. i replied to the officer saying that i wasn't in a rush at all, he answered back saying that he saw me in the rear view mirror though..?? took a look at my liscense , asked for my name and also asked for my papers... officer was all nice and polite at that time. he told me to sloow down, and also said " your car is locked in the computer, next time if we catch you we'll give you 2 speeding tickets"...... Question: is that even possible?? can he give me a ticket for this time as well iff i do get caught for some other reason next time?? i was scrathcing my head on my way home, and can't figure out if that was a warning, or is he actually telling the truth? ![]()

You should have taked down his details too, and complained to his superiors.
Idle threats like that put them in a bad light...... The time of year i'm afraid, lots of cops around....some with an axe to grind....take it easy people! ![]() Gethin. |

Get his details and complain to his superiors? Are you joking? What possible good would that do except make them remember you even more. Or mauybe, you want to ask him for a date so you want all his details? If you start giving cops attitude they are just going to be more unfriendly towards you. What is the point of that. Just apologize for being in a rush and say you will take it easy and you will be on your way with no hassles.

Drive safe my friend, since it was a van besides you, you wouldn't be able to see if there were still pedestrians crossing the road, to make it worse, when the light just changes, they would usually run faster to cross the road, if you launch ur car like that, u would easily run them over. Also, I hate other cars doing that to me.

Well what the cop said is bull ****...they can't give you two tickets...legally...however if a cop wants(disgruntal human) to, he can write up as many counts( charges) as he wants to imagine...Also there is no way out...If you are nice...some times they go easy on you...however some of these ****in depraved and bias cops get off on that and then they pull a Power trip on you and ream you out and still leave you with a ticket saying some BS like " I'm only gonna give you the minimum of $115 and not $173..." Or if you give them attitude...then you are BLACKED MARKED or you end up with a total pissed off Cop...and he decides to pull the "big guns" out on you ( or in other words Throw the book at you)...I however have dealt with them so many times that now I just get visibly frustrated with them( not starking mad or crazy) and explain to them the law and then that sometimes makes them think...It's up to them to call me on it...Don't forget one thing though guys...Most Police Officers have this "I AM the LAW and you are a stupid scared, law breaking citizen. Don't tell me how to do my Job!!!!" sorta mentality...they don't like to be questioned. So get all his details secretly and take him to court( dispute it) in time these idiots will figure out that they can't go around bullying ppl.
PS one more thing...Keiho...what do you think of Cops now?? Still want to defend them?? Try getting harased like you did about another 20 more times like you had it and you'll be in my boat! I have to admit your story on that other post sure tops it with the pull overs and bull **** I've heard in my day...Good luck (and I mean it) on your Dispute in court...with enough evidence and if you dress up they will take you seriously and the judge might actually throw out the case...after you having to waste time and go to court of course and get a VI and pay for it yourself...It has never happened for me, but try to get the judge to remburse your for your VI cost. Yes, I will still defend law enforcement officers. As a whole, they are just people, and well, treat them like people and they'll be nice back. I agree that there are bad seeds amongst them, or maybe they are just having a bad day. It's the same deal with us. There are bad seeds amongst us "import" drivers, doesn't mean we're all bad and should be "condemned" now should it? So why should we do that to police officers? I rest my case. ![]() |

I agree with Keiho. The most cops are just trying to do their job in getting all the bad driver to learn from their mistakes.. but some do take advanatage of situations. They are humans so there will always be good people and bad people. I usually defend cops too, but sometime it is unreasonable.

cops are still just doing their jobs, regardless of being an arse or a total genitalman.
oozzy maybe the cops around your area has worse attitude or soemthing?because after hearing many of your cases they had been total jackarses.. Holam: i did everything safely at that time, getting into the lane within a safe distance and stuff.. i know how sometimes people do jump on greens and lauch like a rocket but that wasn't what i did and i ahem, seldomly do that.... if i do, i do it safely, and i happen to signal alllll the time for every turn or lane changes i do but thanks for the advice! there are afterall good REasons why that cop pulled me over though. ![]() |

Was there an actual right lane?
If there wasn't, but you were just in the right and passing, that is against the law. Friend of mine got a ticket for it before. |

yes theere was a right lane, and i always pass ahead only if there is one.
signalled, shoulder checked, then i saw that itw as a police van, it was accelrating fast off the green though, thinking that it won't let me pass, or maybe trying to catch me cutting in front of him at unsafe distances, but i slowed down, and so did he,. i wasn't going to cut him when i saw it was a police truck, but then he slowed down, so i had to do it in a way, or else he would charge me with unsure lane changes or some crap like that... so i did everything safely!~ ![]() |

though I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it, isn't there a law that states that it is ILLEGAL to pass on the right?

so did u mean that the police was the first car at the green on the "left" lane? if that's the case i will slow down no matter what instead of cutting in front of him....
if he did give me any ticket i will dispute that no matter what.... yet watch out one thing guys....they can give u a $173 ticket even they can't prove how fast u were going....then it jacked up to $345 at the court coz the judge says ur speedo has never been recalibrated! ![]() |

no passing on the right??>????? your kidding! Quote:
i sensed that at that point he might want to catch me for changing lane at unsafe distance because he was accelerating and minimizing the allowable distance between me and the car parked ahead of me(oops, guess i didn't mention that). but then again, he slowed down, and if i dont' change lane then he might in a way catch me for "not changing lanes while signaled for it"???? so i was like what the heck, a car is a car, it was too late to slow down and just stop, so i changed lane within safe distances, and even waved thankyou but then agian,it was still stupid of me to not realizing it was a cop car beside me.... when he approached me his speech was "why are you in a rush" but not mentioning anything tht i did illegally becuase i never did! everything that was still legal was also safe of what i did |

One piece of good news for all the readers of this thread. There is no law in B.C. about passing on the right.
In many of the US States and just about all of Europe "undertaking" is against the law. Thankfully, the Motor Vehicle Act contains no such provisions. The moral of the story: If some grandmother in her K-car is driving 80 km/h in the fast lane, feel free to scoot on by in the right lane. ![]() |

you can't exactally enforce passing on the right because no one enforces left lane hogging. once you enforce left lane hogging, you can then enforce illegal right lane passing
![]() yuhin: "genitalman"... is... erm... not what you mean i hope. Gentlemen is what you meant right? ![]() most cops i've met are cool. in fact, i haven't met any arsehole cop. perhaps its my awsome wood knocking abilities, perhaps its my co-operateive attitude, perhaps its my innocent looking car... but so far i haven't had an encounter w/ a cop that was being a complete d*ck like most people claim on RS. i think attitude is the ticket to not getting harassed by cops. |

Yes, the law is the law and they have a job to do and they are mostly good people. BUT some are grown up school bullies though, and the "give you 2 speeding tickets" would set off alarm bells.......
If they get mad at you questioning a comment they make, they've got a chip on their shoulder. They are law enforcement, not highway robbers. ![]() Gethin. |
