Thumbs up

Uggg - that's a "hellya".

Nobody in the States (outside folks on this site) would put "performance" and "Subaru" in the same sentence. If there was more Rally coverage and more accessable racing to watch there would be a lot more believers!!

of course it would. competing in any series would "enchance" a racing image. hell, if subaru competed in NASCAR, it would "enhance" their image. gary, i'm not sure what you're trying to do with all of these. get more money from SOA, perhaps? well, i hope you wouldn't be that sleazy, nor do i hope that SOA would be ignorant enough to consider this "data". if you need a lesson in statistics, pm me and pay a consulting fee, and i'll help you out

It depends. If subaru compete's against other cars in its "class" and gets whipped it will not look good. If they merely do ok, It will help some.

The problem is that the rules usualy dictate who wins, if the money doesn't. I HATE the people who bring up how well the Type-R does in the Speedvision series, when in its first year or two (the only years I paid attention) they had a HUGE advatage over the competiton due to the rules. No **** they will whip the BMWs when they have the same HP and are allowed to run 350lbs less weight.

I think NASCAR should be like Rally Racing......Use REAL [EDIT] cars people can buy. NASCAR would totally fall apart in 2.5 laps. (announcer voice here)Oh [EDIT]........Jeff Gordon just understeered into the wall. Oh no there goes Rusty in the same spot...now there goes Bill....now there goes ( insert the rest of the drivers here).

OR
(announcer voice again)

Oh my golly the cars just fell apart in the 3rd lap.....unbelievable.... ( to an IDIOT )

NASCRAP has NOTHING to do with cars people can actually own. It would be a dis-service to Subies everywhere to be associated with the loopy boys.

And this has what to do with Gary's question??? Opie

I think alot of it depends on how well the series it's competing in is known. I don't think Chad DiMarco and the Legacy Turbo helped Subaru enhance their "performance" image a whole hell of alot in the early 90's, yet he kicked some ass in it. Why, next to no one ever heard of Pro Rally( at least those who were potential Subaru buyers).

With the growth of import performance cars in the last five years, and the growth of Pro Rally(which is directly related to the growth of import enthusiasts, IMHO), and the internet, it's alot easier to reach out to individual markets, thus, SOA felt it would be worth it to run a Pro Rally Team because many of the people buying the WRX are VERY aware of the car's presence in the rally world.

Now, hopefully road racing imports will continue to grow, and continue to get coverage from Speedvision(or whoever) as well as the magazines and whatnot. Then I can see it helping the brand image.

Many guys want a WRX because they see the WRC Impreza going absolutely crazy in the forests and mountains around the world with fire shooting out the exhaust and cherry red brake rotors and hear that wicked Subaru exhaust note screaming like a mad banshee. No, it's not the same car, but it's "image" is the same which is what is so appealing to a prospective Subaru buyer.

It will be a long time(if ever) until a road racing WRX ever has that impact on someone. Sure, the road racing *helps* a bit, but if we are talking in terms of what Subaru thinks is of the utmost importance, I think rallying was, is, and always will be the sport to "enhance" it's brand image.
