Thumbs up A new road course in Virginia in 2003?

Just thought I'd mention this to you Mid Atlantic types, as it'll be in your backyard if this comes to fruition. According to NASA-VA Region's homepage www.nasaracing.net a place called Dragon's Ridge will be built about 15mi west of Williamsburg, VA. The backers of the facility do have a website up http://www.dragonsridge.com/index.html . Sounds to me like their plans are still way up in the air - NASA's homepage says it will be a 4mi track, but the facility's page says it will be a 2mi track.

From the looks of their homepage they're trying to do the same thing that VIR did - form a country club kinda thing with a race track rather than a golf course. As much as I love to see more tracks on the East Coast, I have to wonder if there's really a big enough market to support two racing "country clubs" separated by only a couple hours.

Wow. I REALLY hope it happens! That, and Rausch Creek should be done next year. (Although I haven't heard any updates and their web site doesn't seem to work anymore. ) If we get TWO more tracks within 4 hours driving distance, I think I might have to look into that tow vehicle and trailer.

I know that I for one will happily be supporting both, as well as Summit Point, CMP, etc etc.. I've been pretty psyched about this one since I heard about it several weeks back... right in my very own back yard.. wee hoo.

OK, maybe a "couple" hours was an exaggeration, but I don't think it's as far as 4.5hr either. I've driven from Norfolk to VIR twice. The first time was kinda slow because there was still a lot of construction on whatever that east-west highway is. The second time (back in July of this year) was definitely under 3hr.

Anyway, yes, it would be wicked cool if this place actually comes to be. In addtion to Rausch Creek there's also another project on the slate for eastern PA - check out this thread I started a few weeks ago in the NESIC forum: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=121907 .
