Question Who's replaced their power antenna?

Help please?

I bent my antenna enough while scraping ice off the rear window that I need to replace it ...

I thought (always dangerous...:monkey: ) the replacement shouldnt be too difficult ... .. however ... I haven't discovered the trick to remove the antenna from the metal supporting column whose top goes through the hole and is held in place by the antenna locking nut on the outside ...

once I figure that one out ... this should only take a few more minutes ...

anyone?

thanks

Charlie

Default Zendar 5" powered antenna

Sweet piece...I broke my stock antenna auto crossing in my farm in the woods...having fun in the snow and then all of a sudden my radio station cut offed...a branch bent the antenna!!! So I straightened it out as good as possible shoved it back down and installed that 5" Zendar piece in the rear centrer rooftop (Had to drill a small 1/2" hole) ... it needs a FM booster "seriously" - all the strong stations come in loud and clear but those weak stations I don't get at all...on the otherhand I only listen to 9.95FM SO WHO CARES!!! It gives my Legacy that Euro MB/BMW look...You can always opt. for the 9"-10" Zendar, which is even more powerful, but I didn't want to look like an Audi/VW!!!

Sedan, right? Piece of cake - unscrew the locking nut (I used a pair of awls to fit the holes on each side). Turn on the radio and catch the antenna as it comes out, then gently twist the plastic cable around until it slips free of the gears. Installation is the reverse - slip the cable into the hole until it stops, slide the antenna as far down as it goes, turn the radio off, and let it retract the cable into the housing. Tighten the nut when all is in place. I've replaced several antennae in our 97 GT sedan. 10 minute job at most, one star difficulty rating.

ditto to rrubel,

it's pretty easy to do-nothing overly seriously complicated at all. It might help to have someone sit in the car to turn on/off your radio. course i cheated- i have a remote control for my head unit

Old thread, I know... but my antenna just stopped working

Anyone know the part number for the mast only? I can hear the motor running, so hopefully it's the quick fix as noted in this post.

do what i do...just listen to a cd haha...you might be able to hook up an antenna from a CB radio or something (one of the little ones) and stick it inside you truck, but on the edge...i dont know for sure though, mine makes a machine gun sounds when it goes down becuase its bent, so i just unplugged it.

The hidden antennas provide the worst reception ever, as far as I have experenced anyway.

Bumping an old thread... I broke my antenna a couple days ago in the same manner as Charlie, while scraping ice/snow off the car. Has anyone used an aftermarket antenna, or is the Subaru piece the way to go? Not that the Subaru part is all that expensive (~$40-45), but I can get a replacement mast on ebay for 1/2 as much.

I want to replace my antennae with a fixed one (shorty) similar to the one in the Nissan 350z. Any other ideas and pictures of people who have actually done it?

Thanks,
