Default oil leak

Well its been a while since I last posted, sucks that this one has to be about trouble. Well anyway...I was driving around tonight and when i got home I noticed alot of smoke coming out of my hood near the scoop. I of course freak out and pop the hood expecting a rageing inferno to be waiting for me. No fire but a strong smell of burnt oil. So I spend the next hour climbing all over my car too search for it. at first I though it might be my oil fliter cause it was a lil wet. I wiped everything down and ran my car for about 15 mins or so. No oil leak that I could see under the car. I looked around somemore on top and I noticed a wet streak on the front of the engine followed it up and found a puddle just kind of underneath where the altinator(sorry I know bad spelling) is. So I wondering if anyone has had the same prob or if anyone knows what it is? Thanks

Nick

you mean from behind the plastic shields over the timing belt below the alternator? sounds like either the oil pump is leaking oil. but I've never seen them pour out that much oil before.

if its running down from the top of the block then it sounds more like your oil press sending unit is leaking, to verify clean the oil off as best you can, start the motor and watch under the alt on the passenger side to see if that is what is leaking.

Whats the difficuly of fix like on that? Would it be better off just taking it to get worked on. Thanks for the input

edit:Well upon further investigation its comeing out of what appears to be that sending unit. Its to the pass side of the alt. Looks like a big bolt with something coming out of the top. It was dry without the car off but as soon as I started my car it started to ooze out of the top. Also would this be a good time for an oil press gauge. I m kind of assuming thats where you would put it. thanks again

yeah, that would be the correct spot, or you could put it on the top of the block in a plug under your intercooler. alen wrench 5/16 required to remove the plug to drill and tap on top.
