i'm thinking about 215 because i'm lowered on cobb springs and don't want a bunch of rubbing with 225's

not to jack your thread - but im in the same situation. needing new tires but still running the stock wrx rims.

was thinking about the kumho SPT in 215/55r16. slightly wider tires with what im hoping is a still solid side wall. ive read the wrx rims can handle 225 width, but at the mercy of giving up a stiffer sidewall, but hell anything is better than the re92s right? they can also still be had for 272 + shipping (about 100$) on tirerack.com

as for your question - i would personally do 45. the 40 will/could give you a very rough ride, especially on anchorage/alaska in general roads.

Depends on the tire, but I'd suggest 225's. This is for an auto-x summer performance type tire, right? I have 215/45's on very similar rims, and while I'm not as low as you, I'd still search for 225's that aren't super wide.

I have Kumho mx's, 215/45/17, and they're stiff and there isn't much sidewall. I personally wouldn't go 40, I'm leaning towards a decent set of 225/45/17's for next summer.

i'm considering goodyear eagle f-1's or bfg kdw t2 and i'm not sure if those run wide or not. i would like to run a 225 but i don't want to rub.

Roll those rear fenders, man.

A general fyi, 225 is the max width in STS, 245 is the max in STX.

As far as which tires run wide, etc, spend some time in the tire and wheel forum, and if you can't find helpful info, start a new thread.

Good call, I would run those also. Less chance of tire rollover onto the rim.

i have run the fusions in the past and liked them a lot.

I would look into the bfgs over the f-1s.

im dropped on tein s techs, running 18x7.5's, with 225/40/18's and unrolled... i dont have any rubbing issues at all.

i recommend kumho tires, they are cheap and perform great.

i'm running kumho 711's right now. they have really deep tread, great for auto-x and have tons of traction. they last a pretty long while too.
the ASX is a huge favorite as well... its an all terrain type tire.. low road noise, greap grip, but dont last as long as the 711. down in texas i could get a full set of 711's for 460 out the door, thats 8.25% tax added!

Those are the rires and size I'm thinking about for next summer, so I'll be interested in how they work out.
