Default what do you do if you have only one key, and you lose it?

Does the dealer have a master key that works on all cars of the same model?
Does the dealer come to your house to unlock it?
How does one get a new key?
Does one have to change the ignition & locks?

I thought I lost mine today, only to find it (miraculously) on the staircase of my building.

being that you found the key, i'd safe the smartest thing to do is to go make some more copies ASAP. i believe that if you had actually lost your only key, subaru would be able to replace (probably at a cost) based on your VIN number. not too sure about this "master" key theory though.

GusS:

If the lost-now-found key is a factory key, there should be a number on it. Give that number to your local dealer & they can get you a key...might even be able to notch one out while you wait.

If you don't have the factory key, the lock cylinders have the needed number on them.
