Post Driving in Northern BC

Driving from Dawson Creek to Prince George yesterday which is a total of about 450kms.

I left Dawson Creek about 1:50pm and got into Prince George about 5:30pm. Had a stop east of Chetwynd at the Louisian-Pacific Pulp mill for about a total of 15 minutes and another 15mins in Chetwynd to stock-up on munchies and relieve the call of nature. That means I averaged about 123kph. The road was a nice mixture of long straights as well as some curvey parts. Didn't want to push the motor to hard so I kept the really long runs under 150kph.

This is really the first time since I bought the car about a month ago that I have been able to test how it runs on the open road. I was not dissapointed. Although it understeers at the limit, it has some nice turn-in characteristics and even the uneven roads of Northern BC can't upset my stock suspension.

The PDM Intake is flawless on the trip. Nice and quiet at cruise and lovely tunes when doing WOT passing of slower vehicles

Only saw one RCMP just west of Chetwynd, otherwise a great drive. This car is going to get me into trouble.

HOLY COW!! Hotel Alarms going off...gotta go.

Just brought my car back from the Subie dealership in Prince George to get my first oil change. They REALLY liked the PDM intake. The guy behind the counter said "You can definately hear the intake when you floor it." We chatted for awhile about my plan for the car and he was amazed at how much I knew about the car. In fact, I think I probably knew more than he did when it came to aftermarket parts. Thank you i-club!!!

Ashton,

Do you have the K&N in yet? Does it sound differently than with the stock filter? Does it pull harder?

Thumbs up

Hi Markus,

Good to see you finally got to exercise your scoobie! Just wait until you get the rear sway bar on there and then try the same run Mucho improvemento for sure!! Also, the intake/filter combo definately makes a big difference... not to mention a great sound, as you mentioned, at WOT!! woo hoo!!

heh! I lived in Prince George (when I was in University)... yeah, that drive from Mackenzie down to Prince George -> Vancouver is really great!! Specially by the fraser valley.

Last weekend I went to Calgary, going there, after Fields, it was boooooorrrrriiiinnggg =P But whoa, I could go fast! I had a speeding buddy and we were doing 160km/hr from Banff to Calgary! (not that I condone speeding mind you, I wouldn't do it if it wasn't safe to do so, there wasn't that much traffic).

You were sppeding that fast between Banff and Calgary???

Man that stretch is RCMP alley. Sometimes you can walk on the roofs of the cruisers they're so numerous. I NEVER speed in that stretch. You got lucky!!!

UPDATE:

Well I'm in Merritt now and I drove from Prince George yesterday. Total of about 550kms. The road south of Williams Lake BITES!! Busy, very few passing lanes and even fewer spots long enough to pass cars and/or trucks. I took me 6hours to do the run yesterday with very few stops.

On the bright side, the very last road I took was from Spences Bridge to Merritt (Hwy 8). I HIGHLY recommend this road, BUT, if I had to do it again, I would do it in daylight. I was smokin' down the road at 130+ (speed limit is 80) and I see a sign that says "livestock on highway" 4 seconds after I finish reading the sign, I come over a rise and cows all over the road. Stopped about 4 ft in front of the nearest cow (yes I think I soiled my shorts). Thank the chassis and brake engineers at Subaru. After that I slowed down...but only a little

Should be a boring day today because I have the wife following me in her Legacy and I'll be takin the kids with me (no funny stuff when the kids are with me).

Ciao for Now.

Cool

Wow, cool, I must've gotten really lucky then, because I averaged to see 1 cop on the way there, and also one on the way back, and both were in BC! On the way back though I wasn't that much in a hurry, averaged around 130 km/hr...

Yeah, the fuzz like to hang out on highway 1 between banff and calgary. Thick as thieves out there, sometimes. Can't go more than five minutes without seeing a cruiser. Highway 2 can be really bad for that as well, during peak tourist season at any rate. Averaged over 150 km/h both ways in the middle of february, and the only cop I saw was headed the other way. Not that I normally do that sort of thing
