Default parking lights not working

hey there everyone.

my parking lights switch is not working. when i switch to parking lights, the dash lights come on but not the parking lights. when i switch to headlights, the headlights come on, but still no parking lights. however, when i use the switch on top of the steering column, the parking lights come on! what's the dealio here? i do have a set of driving lights tapped into the parking lights wiring. i've tried turning off everything and switching to parking lights but still no luck. i do remember hitting a very large pothole about 10 miles before i noticed that the lights were out. any thoughts or suggestions?

many thanks for any replies!

andrew

I've got two possibilities. 1) the driving lights are overloading the parking light circut, 2) the splice has disconnected the normal parking light switch.

Check your connections. Sometimes vampire taps aren't good.

hey, thanks for the reply nick. unfortunately, i've checked out everything and still no luck. i've completely disconnected my driving lights and all accessories. i'm not sure if the wiring is fried because i've been running those driving lights for over a year without a problem. i don't think the switch is broken because i leave it in the headlight position 24/7. and i don't know why the parking lights override switch still works. good thing though, otherwise i wouldn't be able to drive at night.

any other thoughts?

Lemme at it.

Electrical stuff is a lot like computer stuff, way easier to diagnose/fix if you can put your mitts on it.

On ALL Subaru's when the car is not running the ONLY to turn on the parking lights is the switch on the top of the column.

Yes but the dash lights don't come on when the ignition is off, so obviously his ignition is switched on while doing these tests.
