Default Local help / Advice in Syracuse, NY

Who is in the Syracuse or Utica area of New York that has performed mods on an Outback Sport? I'm lookin' to answer the question "Should I?" or "Shouldn't I" when it comes to performance parts, as well as where to spend my money.

I'm a well trained and highly capable computer geek, not a mechanic; so I would have to bring the car somewhere to be worked on. Who is within driving distance that I can talk to and possibly even see your mods first hand?

Well, I'm a computer geek too (have a CS degree, work as a computer programmar), and I'm about to swap an engine from one Ponticac to another in my backyard. So, you can become a computer geek and a car freak too.

Anyway, what kind of mods do you want done on your car?

Come to Rochester... Some of the members know a guy that can do anything with a subaru.

He has a turbo legacy that is pushing 22psi!!

He has his own shop and is one of the few Senior Subaru Mechanics.

Alot of the members hangout at Jeff's shop so you should think about coming out...

Just my two cents..

Apparently the guys up at Cantecch automotive are pretty good at high po stuff, but they are stupidly expensive. I've got a buddy with a garage and tons of tools, but both of us are relatively Subaru ignorant, I've managed to install a boost gauge all by myself but that's about it so far on the Rex. You should come check out Jeff in Rocheter (nice guy) and the Folks up there are quite welcoming.

Ack! I tried and tried to reply but couldn't. Thought something was wrong with my account. Then I checked my email, found a reply and followed the directions. hehehe... guess I should check hotmail more often.

I'd be most interested in suspension and tire work. I have the 2.2L engine, not the 2.5 and don't think sinking money into engine work would be that rewarding.

Exactly where in Rochester is the "hangout" ? Do they have a secret club handshake? hehehe... I'm not makin' fun of you guys. If anyone should be picked on, it's me. I also belong to [SOB], an Unreal Tournament clan. www.sobservers.com and http://forums.sobservers.com Women really dig the [SOB] tag.
She: ...and what do you do for fun? *she smiles at me*
Me: ...I play computer games. *I smile at her*
She: Waiter, check please!

this hangout is in Bristol NY. 1/2 hour south of Rochester. He has all the equipment needed for engine work, suspension, tires...

He also has a 1/2 mile dirt track next to the shop if you care to try out the car.

and no you don't need a handshake... just a sixpack of mt. dew in bottles.....!!!!

What exactly do you want done to your OBS? I hang out at Jeff's place pretty often, he's an awesome guy, as all of the Rochester guys say. He can do pretty much anything you want to your car, and he charges only $30/hr for labor. Come down to Rochester sometime, and we'll head over to his place so you can meet him and talk about any work you want done.

Suspension and Tire work perhaps. Some improvements for everyday driving. I don't race, but I do enjoy taking corners much faster than normal people do. If it was computer hardware I was dealing with, I'd have no fear and wade right in to the mess screwdrivers and IDE cables blazing. But since it's car stuff, I don't know how to evaluate different packages and options; other than listening to the opinions on this here forum. hehehe...

...Then I found out that I have to pay for the Masters program at school. I'll be starting a Masters of Science in Buisness Management this spring, and my parents won't be paying for it. Im gonna have to dip into my "Buy Myself a Computer" Fund to pay for this. Aaaarrrrggghhhh!!! hahaha... Perhaps I should go back to being a Male Escort. They make a lot of money.

well i would highly suggest coming to Rochester and talking to Jeff. He could tell you the best things for your car and maybe a good place to buy them from.

Then he can put the stuff on for you!!!!

Jeff is a huge Rally nut and could talk your ear off about tires, suspension, engines, turbos..... you get the idea.
