Default Victoria BC Activities

I'm scooting over here from the NWIC to ask you guys for suggestions on where to go once my SO and I get to Victoria!

We're coming from Seattle in mid July for a 2-night excursion and we are looking for things to do there. Our hotel has been picked so we're fine there, but we're looking for attractions to visit and activities to do.

So far we have the Empress Hotel for tea and the Butchart Gardens of course. We are definitely going to stop at Roger's Chocolates as I'm a chocolate fiend. We are less sure about the Pacific Undersea Gardens at the Inner Harbour (if it is worth the money, I have no idea) and the London Wax Museum. It'd be lovely to do a carriage ride too, but again, I'm not sure if it's worth the money.

Any suggestions would be great! Oh, and for dining as well! I'll eat anything, but my SO prefers chicken and shrimp dishes over any other meat really. :P

Go for a drive up that way, if you have a lot of time to spend keep going for a really nice drive. I would strongly recommend the harbour house for a meal, amazing seafood.

I would skip the underwater thing in the inner harbour, not worth the money IMO. I would hit the wax museum, its pretty cool. Also hit up the Royal BC museum. Totally agree with Tora on the Sooke Harbour House, a great drive out there and the food is second to none. One place to go at night would definitely be some of the bars at the Strathcona hotel. The Sticky Wicket is a pretty good place and there is actually 3 or 4 bars there that are all different but in the same building. Sticky wicket is a pretty cool rooftop patio bar with an outdoor rooftop beach vollyball court. Pretty awesome on a nice summer day. One of my favorite pubs there would be 'Good Times' it's a pretty nice Irish Bar, much better than the Gaelic Head.

Sorry for the long post but I absolutely love Victoria and like to share my good times!

No problem!! This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. We'll try and hit that Harbour House you and Tora spoke of. I was actually pretty interested in the Royal BC Museum too because I think there's a Titanic Exhibition there for the summer. Thanks!

The museum is pretty good as well. The drive to the harbour house is about 30-40 minutes from downtown (I think...) and again, highly recommended. Drizzie's pub recommendations are also solid.

Ok, so I'm the SO, and we've pretty much decided that we're going to go to Victoria, but a question that we have was whether or not it's worth it to bring a car, and take the ferry from Anacortes, or to take the clipper over instead, but be stuck walking/taxis/shuttling around. The price is roughly the same either way, but there'd be the hassle of driving there and back rather than just taking the boat from Seattle.

So, is a car necessary for a 2 night stay in Victoria, or can we get by mostly walking and the occasional shuttle/cab or two?

Do they still have the classic car museum there?
I haven't been to victoria in years, but the car museum was always a highlight
if you like old cars.

It is definitely possible getting around Victoria without a car. When I go over I check in, park the car, start drinking at the nearest pub and pretty much walk around everywhere from there. Taxi's are like everywhere else, overpriced and not always there when you want one. There are Rickshaws in Victoria and those are always a hoot.

Buses make their last trips around 11:xx though which kinda sucks if you planned on going out late, drinking and busing back to your hotel- just a "FYI"... But then again, Victoria isn't really 'that big' and so taxi fare wouldn't be bad at all

For a good restaurant, I recommend Cafe Brio on Fort Street. It isn't cheap, but it is quite possible the best food I have ever had. I recommend the lamb or tuna.

Miniature World is kinda cool too.

The Undersea gardens is a waste, but the Museum is pretty kickass right now with the Titanic exhibit.
Buchart.....meh, i'd skip it unless your REALLY into flowers.

Pagliacci's is a pretty good place to eat. Very NYC type of place but fantastic food.

I think we will skip the Undersea Gardens for sure since no one has really said it's worth it. And now the museum is definitely on the agenda.

Thanks for everyone's input! Our itinerary is really shaping up.
