Default Is my AVCS on?

Phil helped me with a wiring schematic and I think it lives! I hear 2 clicks from the solenoids when I turn the key on. Phil had said that there was a way through pwm10 to cycle the solenoids to make sure it is on. I emailed him, but it's Friday night and I assume he has a life. I'd like to get this buttoned up tonight if I'm assured that it is working. I'll be checking back if any of you are working on cars and Nasiocing on a Friday night

Thanks so much. You used the part on a EJ207? Are they all the same? How do you get that sucka out? I removed the 10mm bolt from the top and tugged a little, but didn't want to get to aggressive without knowing what the heck I was doing.

Undo the top 10mm bolt and slide it out (toward the rear of the engine). It is about a 2 inch inserted piece. I replaced it on a USDM Sti head so I am not sure if it will fit a EJ207.

Good news. The solenoid is good. Bad news, I don't know what's wrong. I plugged the drivers solenoid into the passenger plug and it was clickin' it's ass off. Plugged it back into the driver's side and just get a dull vibration (barely audible). Hmmmm

I'm not sure what value you used in PWM Map 10 but try setting it at different values to make sure it's a bad solenoid and not an issue with the frequency.

Thanks,
Phil

Yeah Phil, I used 50. The passenger side clicks very loud but the passenger side is a dull hum. Seems like they should be the same, no? Does the ecu differentiate between right and left solenoids? I'll have to pick up a volt meter to check the voltages, but left and right should be the same, right?

It sounds like you have a bad solenoid. They should both work identically. They are controlled by the same PWM Map but two different outputs from the Hydra. This would be outputs 1 and 3 for the WRX and should both be assigned to PWM Map 10.

Thanks,
Phil

That's where I'm baffled Phil. I removed the solenoid on the driver's side and plugged it into the passenger side just for fun and bam, the clicking was audible. When I moved it back to the driver's side, the clicking was gone, replaced by a dull hum. It's like the left bank is not putting out enough voltage. I'm gonna get a voltmeter and check the difference in volts between the left and right banks. Then I dunno what I'm gonna do.

AVCS or bust!!!!

Send me your map and let me look over it to make sure all the settings are correct. If so then you may have bad wiring but you could test this by plugging the other sensor into the side that only hums.

Thanks,
Phil

Thanks Phil. With all my wiring, re-wiring, poking and prodding I think I have totally roasted the AVCS signal from the Hydra. Good news is the car still runs and the Hydra still loads maps. Bad news is, I now get no clicking or humming from either side and no voltage on the AVCS wires. I emailed HYDRAEMS to see about sending it in. Hopefully the Hydra can be repaired. I should not be allowed to work on cars

Yes you need to be very careful when wiring and computers are involved. It does not take much to damage an output as they are really only designed to handle 1 amp. Sometime if another output is available we can just use that instead of repairing the damaged output.

Thanks,
Phil
