Talking Anyone using AEM.

I have been using street tuner. I have a AEM unit on the way for my new build. I may do street tuner and aem just to see the differences. Anyone delt with AEM tuning? What am I looking forward to when adding an extra fuel pump etc... when putting in a new 2.5l swap from a 2.0.

Assuming you are talking about the AEM EMS. It is plug and play. It has a bunch of high side or low side drivers so you will just have to run another relay and switch it with a driver. Pick any driver and wire it to the relay then setup up the output as a fuel pump. It will then operate like a fuel pump. I have mine set to 10psi so when it the turbo reaches 10 psi it turns on the pump. If I know I am going to be racing then I leave it on all of the time. All other input/outputs are basically the same. Find the wire and wire it in then setup in software. IE clutch pedal, switches for Nitrous, outputs for nitrous, water injection, etc.. It is actually pretty easy once you are use to the software.

You can also get on the AEM forum and ask questions if you get stuck with anything. But It is plug and play so getting it up and running is very simple. It took me 30min to get it up and running, including install. I then drove to work that day. With 850cc injectors.

Read up on tuning them on the AEM forum. Good luck.

Wow... nice.. and I see the setup you have is about what I am going to do.. I have a GT4088R in the garage right now just waiting on the engine build so I can have the rest of it retrofitted in. How did you matte yours up? Have someone do the fab work, DIY, or purchase a kit?

Thanks again for the info..just what i was looking for.

Mine was all done by me. It is a precision single scroll right now. I have a full twin-scroll header I built that was on my gt35r kit. I will probably retro fit that for the gt40r eventually. But for now it sits in the shop. The gt40r is great! You will love it.

I will probably do a post on my build as soon as I am up and running. I am using an AEM universal (not the wrx model) that is wired to utilize the stock EM for the drive by wire. Another nice perk of this is I have cruise control yet. My tuner knows much more on the details and how it works. He even found a way to multiply the fuel maps so it is adjusting at a rediculous rate and the resolution of the maps is unbelievable. He's not a member of nasioc, but I will have him sign on and discuss the setup once everything is ready. Right now I'm waiting for my block so I can put everthing back into the car again. I am not very knowledgeable on this subject and that is why my friend's performance shop is handling the EMS and tuning. All I know is we have had the car up and running and it all works. It will also be controlling the nitrous and meth injection.

If it is on an STI it probably was easier to just do the universal. Sounds like a cool build and car. good luck and keep us posted.

Buddy of mine runs an AEM EMS on his WRX hybrid. Runs great.
I have heard that down the pipeline they have DBW AVCS AEM EMS on the way, not ready for consumer use though.

That would be awesome. cant wait to see it. I will do the same. As Ron at AXIS is doing my heads and motor build as well. When it comes it I will probably put the SBR GT11 I have back in just to get it running and see how it goes. I still havent gone out and gotten any injectors.. I guess I will be using my stock modded injectors until i get soem 1000ccs.

I'm waiting on my block from Ron too. Everything else is set. I just have to get the block and put it all back together. Then it is on to breaking it in before the final tune. I'll keep you posted. Here is a link to some picks of the build not quite finished but just before I ripped it all back apart.

hey bonzai...I'm working a nice double and triple 255 set up at the dyno shop...we also have great deal of experience with AEM...in fact mine should be here in a week for my own build.
Also will be working out the parallel fuel system details.
can't get enough fuel through just one set of rails

can't wait to see how your 2.0L will turn out...forgot what turbo you were looking to run...?

Might.. have to come by and check you out when i get back in town week after next. I dont have a 2.0 anymore.. its blown... still havent cracked it open to see what it was. Ron at axis is making me a 2.5l that will scream for more..lol and as for a turbo.. first will be my trusty old SBR gt11 until I fab something up for my GT4088R that is sitting in my garage dwarfing the SBR GT11. I have a few thing I do different than most.. one is I run propaine supplement. So I dont always need extra fuel from the gas tank...lol.. we will see how it does.. but in my 2.0 it ran like a scalded dawg... ;-)

They are running the AEM, but converted over to a cable throttlebody from what I remember.

Thats what I heard. They must have since AEM does not have a EMS for the DBW throttle.

They used to have the Hydra. It seems it never worked ok in the BV car. Ran great but had issues with cranking start (I heard, cannot confirm though). Probably at their level of tunning, the AEM was a better choice.

My Hydra runs great though, and very easy to tune.

^^^ *whew* what DON'T I need...??

best of your knowledge, the approx/exact # of parameters that need addressing before first start (tp, whatever)

...assuming you read the 150+ pages of the manual, what pages/sections you got the most out of.

see, I see now that if ya don't wanna EVER feel timid about yer mods, don't mod but somehow cross-referencing the manual w/more experience REALLY makes me think right, ya know?

thanks

Justin, Mwsoc

well, I just hooked mine up and still don't have a drivetrain
just sold the 5-spd dogbox...need a built 6-spd...or so I've been told by andrew.
so, if you want a base map from me you'll have to wait...actually if anyone has a base map to safe me some time, I'd much appreciate it
