Thumbs up Open track event, 2/23-2/24, VIR - who's with me?!

Registration just opened up at http://www.speedtrialusa.com/vir.htm . Two days for $239 on the Full Course at VIR www.virclub.com with Speed Trial USA. A few of the Mid Atlantic Forum guys ran with ST USA earlier this month (also at VIR) and said it was a good event.

I'll be mailing in my registration tomorrow. Anyone else interested in going? Granted, it's early in the season, and might be a rather chilly event, but that's a damn good price for 2 days at VIR.

I really want to do some track days this year, but this seems a bit early, doesn't it? I still have a few questions:

How long of a ride?
What other kinds of expences?
What kind of tires would you use when it is so damn cold?
What other things would you need (Oil, tires, brake pads, etc.)?

Later,

VIR is about 10-11hr away in Danville, VA.

Other expenses? Hotel room for two or three nights (depending on how I decide to do the drive), I can get a room at the Holiday Inn Express for like $55 with military/govt rate. Gas, of course, for the 1300mi round trip + a couple hundred miles on track. Meals. Track photos, if you so desire.

I haven't figured out what I'll be doing tire-wise, I'll play that one by ear as I get closer to the event. I imagine I'll run on the Kumhos - just have to be a bit more cautious for the first few laps. However, I'll also be buying some new street tires for my 17" wheels so that I have those handy just in case. (I hadn't planned on buying 17" tires until the snow tire season was done, but that's OK).

Really you shouldn't need anything else. Oh, one other thing is that SpeedTrial's tech sheet says they require SA-rated helmets, so M-rated ain't gonna cut it. I need to buy a full-faced helmet to be able to run the Mustang this year, so I was planning on getting an SA-rated one soon anyway.

For those who are unwilling/unable to go to this event, keep you calendar open for April 15-16, when the Quattro Club will be running at VIR. Should be a good event - the QC really puts on a nice show - and it should also be the track debut of the Mustang. I can't wait!!!

Aw great!!! April 15th...another event I know I won't be able to go to. I really recommend running an event with the Quattro Club. They do an excellent job...most events that I will be running this year, will be with them.

Got my confirmation today, 7 weeks and counting.

For those who might be on fence, check out the VIR thread I started in the Mid Atlantic Forum - there's a guy named "ceas" who's trying to get a group deal at only $199 ( ) for this event. Unfortunately, I had already sent in my registration, so I missed out on the $40 savings.

Looks like I am going. Bringing Jazz95 to co-run with me. Havent registered yet, but will be working on it over the weekend.

Have you booked a room yet? Where ever you do, could you reserve one for me using your mil rate? I'd appreciate it. Oh... looks like you have the choice as Steve and Tony are probably passing on this one.
