Does anyone know where an American bumper can be purchased for the Impreza RS? If so, what is the price in Canadian dollars? I also want to buy a roof rack for the Impreza. Does anyone know where, in the Ottawa area, I can find one?

Well to answer the question for the front bumper, you can actually get it from your local subaru dealer. Might be a little more expensive than an aftermarket but definately worth it. As well you will also have to consider if you wanna cut the current inner beam(bar behind your bumper) or actually order the proper one. If you look in the modifications area on this site you can get the part numbers and such. Then all you have to do is goto your local dealership with the part numbers and they'll look em up

They may actually prove to be cheaper than an aftermarket, urethane bumper setup.
Prices (approx) Skin - $290 blinkers $60 ea. fog light brackets $17.ea Fogs -$250 (? not sure on this one) if you want the re-bar - $320 (ouch) or you can just cut the current one. Dealer should be able to order the parts, but I suggest taking it to a good body shop to install it. |

If you cut the re-bar, I don't think the insurance company will pay for any damage if got in a accident!! It's safer to get the re-bar along with the new bumper, although it's a few hundred more.

ICBC won't pay for part/whole damage if you have cut or removed the original re-bar. All I have known so far I have been working in a body shop you will have to fight w/ them to get them pay more % if you have got an fiberglass bumper on and they think that's why the damage is bigger than it's supposed to be...
yet that's not the main point folks...money is only sth you can make anytime...think about life! re-bar does help you when u need it...a original designed 100mm thickness re-bar and a cut 100mm re-bar...which one u think it's harder?! |

The dealer told me that the bumper was 1800.00 dollars installed, but that seems a little much to me. But sure looks way better.

Dave DD,
I would not talk to either dealer in Ottawa, as they cannot get you a bumper. I know, because I have one on my 98 RS. I went to John Scotti in Montreal and picked it up there. Talk to the parts guy, he is great. Both of the dealers in town went nuts when they saw the bumper and the were impressed how fast you can get them. Mine cost ~$850 plus painting and it was installed within a week. If i waited for the dealers in town, they were projecting 6-8 weeks wait. I am in Ottawa everyday, so if you want to see it or ask questions, please feel free to check out the site ( www.ottawasubaru.com ) or stop by one of our monthly meetings. 1800 is reasonable... I can get it for 1100 though
hehe, it's all about the connections...anyway, a shaved re-bar reduces from the regular 10km to a 5km, but if you are going to crash above that speed (10km), then the rebar isn't going to be of much help. Think about it, if you are going 80km, then losing a mere 5km ain't going to do much help. just drive slow ![]() You may feel that I am a bit biased, but hey, that's because I am getting my SYMs bumper installed in a couple of weeks. I can't wait! [This message has been edited by inzomniak (edited March 10, 2000).] |

Wow, you guys are crazy man!
Here in Montreal, Some dealers offer everything except for the inner bar, for 575$ painted, and installed! The original fogs don't light up anything anyways except for a foot in front of the pavement. You can get Hella 500 for 150$ and the bumper installed with the turn signals and vents and painted for 400$ and 150 for the Hellas and there you go. The car looks great and it lights up like a rally car in the front. Come on guys, your dealers are rip offs, they don't deserve your money. Ask them to show you the invoice of there price because as Subaru otharized dealers, there is no way they can ask for 1800$ for the bumper. If they don't show you tyhe invoice than they are hidding something and just take your business elsewhere! That's just my 2 cents opinion, but you might save from it. Good luck and I recommend the switch from Can bumper to US bumper to anyone with an impreza, from L to RS! Jan |

Hey Dave,
Skip is right. Compare his 98RS to my 99RS, it looks like 2 different cars. In Ottawa, there isn't that much available. Another option you could do (Skip forgot to mention) is Subaru Lachute. They could do it for around $1300 (includes everything) but I'd go with Hella 500 instead the stock fogs. Where about are you in Ottawa? I live around Orleans myself. Later. freeman: I ain`t joking! When the salesman told me the price, my jaw dropped. I couldn`t believe he kept a straight face. That said, I have no idea what the real one would cost as after market + the pain of getting it painted and installed. Can`t wait for the new model, maybe IT WILL BE EVERYTHING IT SHOULD BE.

Hey Skip,
Come to think of it i do remember seeing your car one day as you passed me on the 417,as a matter of fact thats how i found out about this website it was on your back window. You've got a black RS right,Rick down @ OTTO'S was telling me about your car.Rick was the one working on my car for 3 months, and i'm happy to say the car looks and feels great now, especially after driving a "Hyundia Accent"!I'm pretty busy but i think I'll try to attend that next meeting. |

Dave,
I am assuming that you are the one who swerved to miss a Brinks driver and smashed a guard rail. I saw your RS at Otto's. Yeah, I have the black RS, sorry about passing you on the road. I guess that you were in the Hyundai, I would have waved at another Subaru owner. I am glad that you got your RS back. As for the driving to Montreal, my car was in at Otto's being fixed from rearranging a Ford Taurus, so the work was being done there. I drove to Montreal to save of time and delivery costs, but they would happily ship stuff to Ottawa for Otto's to install it. If you have any other questions, drop me a line. Later, Skip |

Hi Dave,
Welcome to Barrhaven! I live there too. Maybe we can meet some times after you've moved. Yea, I brought my silver TS @ OTTOS too. inzomniak, its not about 10Km Vs 5Km re the bumper. Its about the fact that ins co. will try every means to screw you, especially if they discover that you have a not-up-to-spec bar when you're in an accident. |

99TS and inzomniak,
I would check with your insurance company about the bumper swap. I called my insurance and they were pretty cool about it. All they wanted was pictures to see what the car looked like after the face lift. P.S. It looks much better. Skip |

The pic will show the skin only. What if they hear you say: "Oh, by the way, I have to cut the reinforcement bar in half to put the skin on."
Yeah, I know, you can simply just not to tell them. But then, whats the point sending them the pic? |
