Below is a copy of a post I made to the Midwest Forum. I thought more people would be interested in it, but apparently not.
I did not know such an animal existed. [begin copy] Not mine, unfortunately. I found this ad in a local classified at the newspaper stand. 1999 Subaru Outback, rare police package, never in police service, all options, skid plates, only made in 1999. $20K obo. It is located in Elwood^H^H^H^H^H^HElmwood Park, Illinois. I'm not going to put the phone number here, e-mail me if you're serious and want the number. I'd think about it, but it is almost certainly an automatic. "Cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks..."

No link that I know of. There is a picture with the ad, in black and white. It looks exactly like an all-white 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback, to me.

Might just be RHD. I know the police in a couple cities around here use them for meter maids. It's called a postal package. Never heard of an actual police package on a Legacy.

I've seen a few examples of these here in Utah.
It's freaky to look into a Legacy Wagon and see a person sitting in the right side but no one on the left. |

It was my impression that the police/fire package outbacks were basically stripped down outbacks at a lower price. They didn't come with the frills and thrills and were left without radio/cd/tape and that sort of thing and sold for a few grand less than the regular outback. I think they were also only available in white.

Ah! So that explains why I saw a white legacy wagon once that was RHD!

Ben has a good point, if anyone wants to do a TT swap from a J-spec Legacy, a Postal/Police RHD Legacy is the best bet.
Problem is, you're going to have to learn how to shift with your left hand, which i hear isn't too bad. |

At the local meet we had yesterday we asked the mail-man if he wanted us to swap the twin turbo in his wagon! I don't think he was interested, he just droped a package off and sped away. ![]() |

If I recall correctly, Missouri state troopers have all Subaru Outbacks for the K-9 units. So this may as well be a K-9 unit for another state. They supposidly were bascially the Legacy Outback stripped, with the dog gaurd/seperator installed and a slightly better ECU map, still and EJ25 of course.
Who knows? Anyone close by there going to check it out? |
