Default tuning

hi guys,

i'm thinking of tuning my own car.got wideband, and a laptop.
what is the first thing that i should touch? timing? afr? or?? my car is stock except exhaust.no boost controller. my gearbox is 6sp jdm. i understand that normally ppl tune o 4th gear. but can i do it on 3rd? or on a gradient slope.not too steep.
pls help because i'm rather keen in trying out.

Have you registered over at osopenecu.org do that and pic up the free stage one base map. This will eliminate alot of the time and give you a good starting point. Oh ya 3rd is great 4th is scary.

I would say first you should log the heck out of it and make sure you understand what is going on first. Then when you feel comfortable making some changes start with boost, then move to fuel and then timing. Baby steps are key. Make small changes, log it, repeat.

but what i heard is 4th is the best way..more load.. but thinking 3rd on a slight slope might be the same..am i right?

Try 3rd from 2k to redline and then you will know why 3rd is better.

Most people use 3rd for a 5MT and 4th for a 6MT. Up a hill in 3rd on a 6MT should work...
