This is what I have been looking for! I have been on the look out for an STI axelback for a while now.

This is just the axelback right?

Are you planing on or do you have a stormung midpipe or maybe a resonator delete, Im not sure how it would sound. what you have now sounds pretty nice as is, I might have to try just the axelback and then change if need be.

Does anyone have a clip of an sti axelback with a stromung midpipe?

It is only the axleback section, everything else in the exhaust is stock. I have heard a sti axleback without a resonator and a mid pipe and i thought it sounded terrible. but thats just me.

i used to have that setup, it's really really raspy...wasn't too bad withthe resonator, just really quiet

what the eff?!

That setup isn't raspy in the SLIGHTEST bit. I had it for two years and it was just really low pitched and quiet. And with or without the res, it is 4 or 5 dB louder only in the 2k-3.5k rpm range. other than that you can't notice a difference.

also, is it worth modding a sti midpipe to fit, as I have herd its resonator is a bit better sounding but no ones confirmed this ether.

imo, and i've experienced it myself, the STi cb with no res isn't raspy in the slightest.

exactly your opinion, everyone hears thigns different and thinks their own hence hearing sound clips doesnt compare to it in person

Everyone should be clear in their sound clips.

The difference of the exhaust note on a 07, and a 05, is COMPLETLY DIFFERENT in part of the Unequal length headers, and equal length.

So Yes, on a 06/07 2.5i the STI axle back with straight midpipe is Raspy.
But on an 05, It could be loud and pulsy (no exp with an 05')

ok, that makes sense.

So is it a bad idea to then to go with the the stromung catback (includes the staight mid and axelback) for a 2.5i? Since I would think it would be the same as what you said above.

Is there any benifit then to mod the STI midpipe(extend 2 inches) or is that not worth the hassle, due to the larger pipe size for possible torque loss? vs any benifit in sound you may get.

I have a stock 06 wrx axleback which I believe is pretty much the same as the sti one on my 02 legacy... I am planning to get a custom mid pipe as well..
