Alright, so figured I'd throw this out there. I have a bit of wood to burn at the camping meet this weekend, but need a bit o help cutting and stripping it. It is old decking so most just needs to be sawed into pieces. (I have a corded and cordless circular saw and sawzaw, but some pieces are also (from being a deck) riddled with nails and joist hangers, so need help in pulling the nails out as well. I'd be down to having a small BBQ and some brews while doing it, or perhaps driving down to the great bear afterward, if anyone wants to help, post or PM me.

Alright, Friday works for me as well... Sounds good. Lets plan around 6:30-7pm to start give everyone a chance to get out of town yet early enough we arent going till midnight
Directions, Hop on the Glenn and head out of town.... after going into Wasilla Make a right @ "Main Street/Knik Goose Bay". Follow for about 2 miles and make a right @ "E Village Lp", I'll be the first house on the right with a gravel U shaped drive (ok, so its more lazy L shaped) ... and currently a motorhome is near the garage. House number is 1800. |

Be careful, If the decking is treated it contains arsenic and it gets released in the smoke when you burn it.

Good point Alaskan. I do not believe it is treated, for the way it had deteriorated and crumbled. I have already burned a few pieces already with no symptoms. in my burn barrel... but will triple check tonight the other boards to make sure there isnt signs of being treated, as there havent been yet. I'll post up more tonight.

no, just checked, its not red colored, mostly a light yellow, unless it is wet as it is now then more orange. no signs of a dark ring around the edges where I have already cut some, and as rotted out as it was, I'd hazard a guess it wasnt treated, I mean the beams came up when prying the decking off.
Well, we can plan to come out here and cut it up, and if a wood miser is along and/or we all agree it shouldnt be used, we just drink and play xbox.. LOL. |
