Default Rear seat pass through (or lackthereof)

Hello,

It really bugs me that my 92 Wagon lacks a folding rear centre armrest / pass through hole / ski sack. On my other car (which is a sedan) I can keep my skis and hockey sticks in the car, while retaining the ability to carry 3 passengers. In the sube I'm forced to keep the rear seat partially folded down, thus only being able to seat 1 rear passenger. If I do need to carry 2 people in the back I end up having to put the skis over the rear bench.
Is there any cheap/feasible way to address this?

PS: I find it convenient to keep my hockey & ski gear in the car all winter long, so a roof rack is not the answer, nor do I want to use a thule box.
