Well we seem to get a good amount of people interested in getting tint done. So I figured I would give a review of my experience.
Trayci is the lady who used to personally come to Northstart and do window tinting. She recently has purchased Dr. Vinyl (Located on 76th before King street) and now only does tinting at her shop. Also to note is that Northstart no longer offers window tinting, they highly recommend her though. Anyways, I decided to go with 20% all the way around. Currently she is running a discounted special on window tinting. I got mine done for $214.00 (please note she only accepts cash or checks) The work is backed by a lifetime warranty from all the typical problems tint can have. (Bubbles, fading, peeling, ect.) I made an appointment to have the tint done last saturday however, was exhausted from work and fell asleep through my appointment. I got the day off on tuesday so I gave her a call around 10am. She was able to squeeze me in on that exact day to get the tint done. Dropped the car off around 11am-12noon. Told her their was no rush and I would pick up the car later in the evening. Car was done by 5pm'ish and ready to go. Work looked great. Had the minor bubbles that eventually cured and disappeared. The rear window maintained some minor bubbles, however I was told by Trayci to come in a few days later for touch ups because this can happen. I came in today to get the touch ups done. Took less than 10min. Tint looks great and I have no complaints. Trayci gave a great customer support and answered all my questions. So if anyone wants to get tint done I highly recommend to go to her. I know many have complained about 2nd to none and Shades of competition so I think many people would be pleased to go to Dr. Vinyl for work. - Great customer support - Lifetime warranty - Work done was 10/10 IMO - Couldn't ask for any better Additional thanks to Ralph for recommending her when I gave him a call. ![]() And thanks to Sarah for lending me your car while the work got done. ![]()

I already spoke to JUSTIN. She is honoring his prices and he refers a lot of the "illegal" window tinting to her because of the new law. He knows I have legal tinting so it's not a problem for us.

I'm not used to Alaska tint laws. What exactly are they? Here is what a random search showed:
Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 5 inches of the windshield. Front Side Windows: No tint can be applied legally to this window. Back Side Windows: Must allow more than 37% of light in. Rear Window: Must allow more than 37% of light in. |

I talked to Northstart earlier this week and they gave me her number. I was going to call her, but I ended up being busy. I'm going to call on Monday and hopefully set-up an appointment to get mine done.

Ok as for legality I can let you know what is legal seeing I got pulled over for it about an hour ago. The front windows can be no more then 70%. The Back Windows is 40%. This is for passenger cars. The rules for trucks are different.

Same applies to the rear, if you have them install 40%, it's only letting in around 15-20%. You can get away with more on the cargo area on SUV's. My recommendation is to at least make sure that you're visible through the driver's window. |

Per this, I'm easily illegal on both cars. I've got 20% all around on both. Never get hassled, though, because I never drive the Boxster and the Prius is too quiet. ![]() |

$170 was what I paid at 2nd to None last year. I heard it has gone up though.
Shades of Competition quoted me $220. ![]() |

I had mine done over at car toyz a few weeks back. It looks great and they beat all other prices in town. He did a great job. I also pulled up with a flat tire (stupid nail) and they were very helpful. Pulled the tire off and the guys over at Underground patched it no charge.

Not a problem, not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I do need to talk to my eye doctor.
