Default CEL flashing = knock or misfire??

I read that on a stock ECU, CEL flashing is misfire. But what about on a Ecutek flashed ECU?

some background info:

PE650 injectors, 255 pump
Deadbolt TD05-18G
Greddy RSPL FMIC
TBE
AVCR

Car was protuned by local tuner with Ecutek with AVCR set to around 22psi. He has done a pretty crap job at it. car sputters alittle when moving off after extended idling and i can't hit target boost in 1st and 2nd. anyhow, i was doing some spirited driving the other night and after which, the car felt sluggish the next day. On my way to work, the CEL flashed a coupla times when i stopped at the lights.

ECUTEk reflashes will display knock by flashing the MIL. If it's a steady flashing it's a misfire, but if it illiminates a little at a time that's knock.

what is MIL??

The car felt sluggish after 4000 rpm, but no flashing of CEL at all. It only started to flash (5-6 consistent flashes) after i stopped at the lights idling.

I was thinking if it is knock, shouldn't it flash during load (when boosting)??

EcuTek does not flash the CEL for knock, only misfire

Sounds like a mechanical problem to me, bad plugs, boost leak, vac leak

man i would take your car back to the protuner that tuned your car and tell him whats up!!!! i tuned my car with enginuity and ecuflash with a stage 1 map and have no flashing cel or any problems. just think of this did you have problems with your car before you tune? if you didnt then you have a problem with your tune. thats where i would start.

UTEC does this, not ECUTek...unless they have changed something recently.

More than likely the tuner did not get the injectors dialed in properly....pretty common with the PE injectors...

I'm not sure if the CEL flashing has anything to do with it though but i'm pretty sure the injectors are NOT dialed in because i'm sputtering when moving off with the aircon on and in traffic. its annoying!!

I did have a smililar problem with CEL flashing and after which, limp mode and boost was locked at 7-8 psi approximately. But that happened on my then bone stock 02 WRX.

AFAIK, the 02 ECUs are extremely sensitive and go into limp mode easily. It doesn't help that the ambient temp here is HOT around 90 deg. I installed a EBC and it didn't happen again till this shi**y tune.

i've never seen an ECU on a stock vehicle end up in Limp mode with 7-8 PSi, that means that your IAM has dropped low enough that the ECU has switched to the high-det maps. it's been in the high 80's to 90's daily(well except for the past 5 days) since the beginning of June. You might also be having a fuel qaulity issue.

what is IAM? from where i am, we get 90s deg wheather all year round. Its very common for WRXs to end up in limp mode over here. And a EBC usually cures it.

so in a nutshell, CEL flashing on Ecutek and stock ECU = misfire and on UTECs = knock? Thanks guys

one more thing, how does misfire cause the ECU to go into limp mode? i thought it only goes limp mode when it senses knock?

IAM= Ignition Advance Multiplier, that's bascially what the ECU uses to determine the health of the engine/conditions in which it's under. Normally the ECU won't switch to limp mode(wastegate pressure) until 6(normally the ECU would be at 16). You really need to do some type of datalogging as there's no reason you should end up in Limp mode with those kind of temperatures. Hell it's easier to tune a car if your weather never changes, try tuning it when it's 95 then have the car start when it's -10
