Default Car dies when trying to idle / dying car

Just posted this over at enginuity.org, looking for more input...link: http://www.enginuity.org/viewtopic.php?p=21012#21012

Relevant mods:
850cc deatschwerks
3inch MAF
100% TIAL Atmospheric BOV (cannot be changed to re-circ)
ACT Prolite flywheel
2.5 liter block to WRX heads

Summary of problem:

Once my car "catches" the idle, it idles fine.

The problem is after it has been revved, or driven, it has trouble to idle. It has trouble "recovering" the idle

For example, it could be idling fine at ~900rpm. I drive 1 block, come to a stop, the RPM needle will drop all the way to the way to 0 and car dies.

If it doesnt die immediately, it will bounce between ~500-1300 RPM a couple times, then either settle at the 900-1000 rpm idle, or die if it dips below 500rpm.

Observations:
-It happens more frequently after a long highway cruise.
-I am running rich because of MPG, smell, and backfires.
-Before my 2.5 liter swap, which is also when I put in the ACT prolite flywheel, this only happened a couple of times, now its every time I drive the car, which makes me think its either the flywheel, or improper tuning adjustment to 2.5 liters.

What I have tried:
-raising idle speed with ecuexplorer
-rescaling MAF and injectors

Sorry for the uberlong post, just want to get anybody thats trying to help a clear picture. If anyone has any comments or suggestions please help.

EDIT: Lol I just noticed that i unintentionally wrote my post in chem/physics Lab format, I guess thats what happens when taking 2 Labs for summer term B. Laughing Embarassed Laughing

you have the wrong spring in the TiAL BOV....

I had one customer changed it out to another brand after putting in the correct spring & it idled/recovered idle even better.

thanks for the input, do u know what spring he used?

I found this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TIAL-...spagenameZWDVW

My boost gauge reads about -0.65 bar at idle...should I be looking at the -9 psi?

-.65 bar of vacuum at warn idle is ~19in of Hg, by that you need the 11psi spring, I'd double check the spring that you have it in now.

I have a similar problem. My car idles fine, but sometimes when slowing to a stop the idle dips below 500 rpm and stalls. I think it's from the lightweight flywheel. It only happens once in a while but has been constant through 3 engines and even different ecu's (2.5 N/A, 2.0 wrx, 2.5 STI hybrid).

I have a stock BOV so that's not the issue. If anyone knows a fix through enginuity for the stalling i would be very interested to know.

What flywheel are using? Mine is the ACT prolite which I think is only like 10lbs. So if this happens to you, and you have the stock bpv, that makes me wonder if its actually my spring. It could be the combination of both, does anyone know if a light flywheel can cause this?

It could be the TIAL, since you make more vacuum as the rpms are coming down than if you were just at a sitting idle. Also, it could be the MAF calibration. You usually only get to the very low end of the MAF scale when decelerating or when RPMs are coming down. It is a hard area to tune as well since you don't have much resolution especially with a big maf.

I'd put my money on the MAF calibration though as that is what I tweak to fix stalling issues on BigMAF or blow-thru cars.

I have the same exact problem after I installed my ACT ProLite. I also installed my ACT Street Clutch at the same time. I'm glad i read this thread. Sounds like it's the flywheel's fault. What did you do to fix the problem?

I have the same problem as well except i have an ATS twin disc clutch. I am not sure the weight but it sure did feel heavy.

Bump for more info.
