I recently sold my 2006 WRX

Car made 247 whp and 345 ft-lbs of torque on 93 pump gas

Mods - V1 accessport with Al freidman protune (@ ICS) stromung shorty DP, Maddad cat delete, ERZ catback and SSAC intercooler

Car had seen 25+ track passes however, not shifting or launching at full potential. Trapped 101 in the 1/4 with most launches at 4500 slipping clutch hard and little tirespin

Car has 59,xxx miles on it when I sold it this July and was still shifting mint just fine until the kid I sold it to totalled it, bought it brand new in July of 06

Only complaint was the clutch slipped a little in cold weather at high load

DD and lots of autocross. Launch at 3K rpms (breaks the wheels free for a brief moment with R-comps) but I don't drop the clutch, I let it slip.

No issues so far, but I'm sourcing a backup trans just in case.

Aaaaand, update. BAM! Lost third gear coming to work. Yeah, I actually did kinda laugh when I realized I hadn't blown up my (fifth) motor.

Installed new trailing arms last night with pillowballs and I noticed the shuddering/shimmy when letting off the throttle under WOT was gone and the car picked up faster.

In 3rd gear merging on the highway, switched lanes, pressed the gas....and box-o-rocks. At first I thought my trailing arm came off since I was accelerated then jerked forward and slowed. Check oil pressure...good....tracking straight....good. That's when I realized it was third gear.

Had 60 or 61k on the trans.

I don't launch 'er hard (or shift hard) very often, but I do WOT frequently. Mainly 3rd gear for data logging (which is quite enjoyable ).

I installed a VF39 at 47k several months ago.
Currently at 55k and *knocking on wood* everything is still strong.
I replaced the tranny fluid with Extra-S at 27k and am about to replace it with Motul 300 gear oil.

I do not "plan" on any more power upgrades for quite sometime (though I wish I could... trust me.. )

Mods:
VF39
STi TMIC
AEM CAI
TurboXS turbo-back (stealthback) with standard TurboXS muffler (non RFL)
Tuned by Applied Tuning Solutions (shameless plug I know )
Dynojet SAE (corrected) 300 hp 340 tq

I've romped on it quite a bit since the upgrade, but I do not "bang" the gears. Naturally, I slip the clutch on launches (though I have smoked the clutch a couple times cuz' I suxorz). I have missed 3rd gear once (w/vf39) VERY bad, and it was at the strip (once again I sux). Man that pissed me off.

Hang in there baby!

While my car was stock for 60K and then stage 2 for 15K, I beat the ever-living hell out of my 5MT and it was still going strong when I sold it. Launches, flat-foot shifting, gear banging.

I'm still amazed I didn't break it.

in the middle of doing a tranny leak fix right now. come to find out that my center diff went bad. Does anybody know if the center diffs from previous years are the same in the 06-07 trannys?

Thanks!

2006 Subaru WRX TR manual tranny. 64K stock tranny and original clutch. All stock until Stage II (about a month at stage II)

Purchased at 52K miles in June 2010. Transmission felt fine except a occaisional grind in 5th gear which I could literally tell was going to happen as I felt resistance going into 5th, made no sense to me except previous owner resting his hand on the shifter all the time. I did replaced fluid with Scotty's cocktail and 5th grear grind went away completely after 2 days of driving. I now have 64K on the car in October and its been XPT stage II for about a month. No issues, no grinds, downshifts are smooth, 5th grear feels fine, no slipping on original clutch.

I don't launch the car as I never drop the clutch in any gear. I guess I am a habitual granny shifter and I would never hard launch this car, seems pointless to me as the car is brutely fast in 1st and 2nd anyhow just feathering the clutch. But I guess my plans to upgrade from stock turbo seems to be not worth it if I am happy with the gains on the stock turbo. I am hitting 5-7 psi in 1st, 16.4 psi in 2nd, 17.2 psi in 3rd, 17.8 psi in 4th and 18 psi in 5th and its been pretty consistent since its leaned out.

Nice thread, great info for us planning on increasing power and driving hard.

06 Wrx with 60k miles and original stock clutch. I've been running stage 2 since 40k and no problems yet with tranny. I did just recently put in Extra S oil and found original oil to be pretty clean and surprisingly a little bit of metal nothin major. I think as long as u don't launch and beat on it all the time you'll be fine. Oh yeah i drive in Nyc traffic all the time.

06 WRX Wagon, opensource tuned at Precision Tuning, 235HP/300TQ at the wheels with K&N air intake, Madded TBE, Hallman MBC.

46K miles, tuned for the last 5K miles, changed tranny fluid at 30K and at 38K.

done a handful (2-4) clutch-dump launches that didn't really launch, just shocked the drivetrain like a mother....yeah I know, dumbass driving. This was when I first bought the car. Since then, only a handful of times, I've launched the car while slipping the clutch to minimize the drivetrain shock. This was after the tune. I've also done 2 launches in the rain to see how the AWD system works it out.

Spirited driving/"normal" driving is about 50/50. In spirited driving, I take it to about 5K to 5500 revs on WOT before shifting 1 to 2 to 3. I always slip just enough and always (at least try) rev-match when downshifting.

Trans feels good just like day 1. I just hope those few dumbass attempts at launching an AWD car didn't f' my trans up. It has been 40K miles since so everything should be good. I plan on upgrading to a VF43 and other power mods next spring and want to achieve near 300HP/350TQ at the wheels. I'm considering going to AndrewTech and do Helical 1-4 PPG gears and upgrading to ACT flywheel and clutch at the same time. I'm concerned that the trans won't hold up to the torque but my tuner said I should be fine unless I decide to go with a larger turbo, thus more torque.

My stock clutch started slipping a few weeks ago. ODO is at 59k.

*Knock on wood* the tranny still seems solid.

Still sporting the VF39 (300/340)

I'm going with a Southbend Stage 2 clutch kit. Should be breaking it in around Thanksgiving.

06 WRX, 49,9xx miles, 2k of it me. VF39, STi tmic w/tune, exedy stage 1, all within the last 45 days, some feather launches. Nothing bad yet, since the clutch install though, after the car warns up shifting into 4th seems to grind ever so slightly, not sure what to make if it yet.

06 wrx, vf39 protuned
approx 290awhp

exedy stage 1 clutch (10,000 KM, duno what that is in miles)
Been having little grind from 2-3.

Clutch is somewhat slipping on wot on 3rd gear.
I am thinking on what to do to reinforce the tranny.

I will be going td06 20g 8cm2 with all supporting mods (walbo 255/kstech 73mm/850cc)
I think i should be around the 380 range when done.
So should i be getting legacy gt 1-3 gears as a lot mention
or go with sti ra gears ?

I can not seem to find the price for legacy gt 1-3 gear cost
compare to sti ra gears set or type sti gear set at
http://www.rallispec.com/prod_trans.htm

Now 3k miles made 324whp 330wtq on 18G

Man rereading this makes me realize how much more of a noob I was .

Just to follow up the car has been stage 2 for the past three years with 43K on the odometer. Occasional spirited driving but I never abused the tranny. Changed fluids with Uncle Scotty's cocktail mix and my car loves it.
