Not much of a find considering I work at a dealership and they posted the information on the back end site I figured I wouldn't be the first to post invoice costs, etc. I'll leave that to someone else if they feel the need. Won't be long before Edmunds, etc has it anyways.

Thats a lot lower than I thought. Very aggressive! If the STI follows this trend it will be slightly less than the 07!

The WRX LTD's were pushing 30k as it is now. Apparently those of you that think it's expensive haven't gone new car shopping in a while. The difference is with the new interiors, etc we can actually justify the pricing now I'd say.

The pricing letter for those that care:

Quote:
July 16, 2007
Dear Subaru Retailer:

At the National Business Conference in Las Vegas you learned about how the all-new 2008 Impreza will attract new customers to the Subaru brand and expand our existing loyal owner base. There simply is no other product in the subcompact segment that will offer customers more value than the 2008 Impreza! Starting at $16,995, Impreza is price positioned to attract new customers to the Subaru brand and expand our existing loyal owner base.

You had the opportunity to drive the new Impreza and WRX models for yourselves at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and you can attest to the value these products offer in the marketplace. We can’t stress enough just how important a successful launch of these products is to the brand, and we think we have everything in place to realize this success, with your cooperation.

Subaru of America, Inc. is pleased to announce the pricing and product improvements for the 2008 Impreza lineup. The entry price for 2008 Impreza 2.5i 4-Door models decreases $1000, while the entry price for WRX 4-Door models decreases $645.

With new, more sophisticated styling and two new body styles, a 4-door sedan and a 5-door model, the Impreza 2.5i and Impreza WRX are “Ready to Move.” The new Impreza models take a giant leap forward in terms of comfort and utility, while delivering the handling, performance and Subaru Symmetrical AWD that made the original Impreza such a success. The new 2008 Impreza continues the Subaru tradition of legendary safety and crash worthiness. New for this model year are standard side-curtain airbags on every Impreza model. Also new on Impreza 2.5i, is the availability of Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), which is now standard on WRX and Outback Sport models.

The 2008 Impreza WRX now rides on a new chassis with a wheelbase that is 3.7 inches longer than the previous version for a total of 103.1 inches. The new 4-Door Impreza 2.5i and Impreza WRX are unique to the North American market and are 4.5 inches longer than the previous sedan and 6.5 inches longer than the new 5-Door models.

All 2008 Impreza and WRX models feature an all-new double wishbone rear suspension. This design, which allows for less interference of the cargo area, provides a wider and deeper luggage compartment for increased cargo capability. This new suspension design, along with the new Impreza chassis, significantly improves ride comfort while decreasing levels of Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) as well as road noise for a quieter cabin. With the addition of high tension steel at structural points, this new chassis is able to achieve a lower overall weight for the body while the longer wheelbase helps to improve not only the ride, but also the interior space and utility.
The new 2.5-liter normally aspirated boxer engine delivers 170 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 170 lb-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. Low end torque and fuel efficiency for this engine have both been improved through a revised intake system. The 2.5-liter turbocharged and intercooled boxer engine in the WRX delivers its maximum torque and horsepower earlier than the previous model, with 224 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 226 lb-ft. of torque at 2,800 rpm, a full 800 rpm earlier than the previous generation WRX.

The exterior boasts an all-new design featuring the new spread wing logo design at the top of the widened grille. Additional exterior features focus on detail touches such as the distinctive curved fog lamps and an inward sweeping chrome embellishment that helps the grille design flow fluidly into the bumper. The rear of Impreza 4-Door model is set apart by red tail lamp lenses and a chrome strip below the trunk line that visually widens the tail. The Impreza 5-Door model features a distinguishing character line that sweeps upward at the rear, giving the car an agile look. WRX 5-Door models feature a single chrome exhaust pipe while WRX 4-Door features dual chrome exhaust tips. On WRX models, a new available aero kit denotes the WRX rally car heritage.

New for 2008 are framed windows that allow for improved body rigidity and provide for a quieter interior with better sealing for the windows. Rear seat legroom is also significantly increased. The interior of the 2008 Impreza shows improved comfort and style with its sweeping twin cockpit, brushed aluminum look, sculpted door panels, and improved head and shoulder room. A Touch screen GPS Navigation and information center is available and is the focal point of the center console. Available audio/video input for MP3 players or video games (Navigation Models Only) allows for better integration of electronic devices into the vehicle.

It’s clear that the 2008 Subaru Impreza is more refined, more stylish, more comfortable and provides more utility than ever before. And that adds up to more value for our customers. The 2008 Impreza 2.5i 4-Door starts at a highly competitive MSRP of $16,995 – a $1,000 decrease from the previous model year! The WRX 4-Door sedan will start at $24,350, which is $645 less than its 2007 predecessor. If you add the $645 destination and delivery charge to the base price of the 2008 WRX, this incredible vehicle still comes in below $25,000!

2008 Subaru STI models will be announced towards the end of 2007.
Exceptional value, performance, and safety. It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

Impreza is “Ready to Move.” Good Selling!

So if you want an Impreza with Nav & Sat, you can have either a 4EAT or a turbo ... but not both?

Ooops.. nevermind. The auto WRX's don't sell well anyways so I can understand not bundling them together for a 31k car.

No, I know 5MTs have the choices, but if you were for some reason stuck on getting an auto Impreza, you can either have nav&sat OR you can have a WRX.

That is stupidity usually reserved for Manual lovers so I say THANK YOU SOA. Nice for the MT lovers (who are the actual enthusiasts) to be given the options for once.

Question question about the wording in that letter...

They just mean no video input for cars without nav, right? They're not saying no audio input for cars without nav ... right?

The way I understand it, the aux input that we have now is replaced by the audio/visual input on the nav models but will still be on the ones without the nav. In any case a true Ipod interface is an avilable option for the apple fans.

I'm not the best at math but let's take a look at your statement.

3.0R Legacy MSRP: $31,940
WRX Premium with Nav and VDC: $29,595 in wagon form (can't get legacy in wagon)

Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks a LOT more like a $2,345 difference... and if you just compare the sedans it's a $2,845 difference. Why not try comparing the appropriate numbers next time?

I was really hoping for more of a price drop. It is good news for regular impreza buyers, I guess. I don't think that this pricing is all that aggressive when you compare the WRX to some of its direct competitors. It still has the AWD trump card, but I was hoping that they would also try to price the car lower than the outgoing model.

$500 off the sedan isn't exactly what I would call really aggressive pricing (especially as we all know that they want the 5 door to be the volume seller)

Do we know whether the standard equipment is better than the outgoing car?

why would you want a turbo on a 4ET?!!!
auto trannies are a waste of performance so whats the point on wanting to go fast if you don't have control.
if you can't drive a stick you don't deserve a turbo engine.

Unfortunately what I have noticed while extensively shopping WRX prices vs Legacy GT (07 models in the midwest), is that dealers were MUCH more willing to deal on legacy prices than on the WRX. This leads to a dramatic reduction in real world price difference, at least in the midwest, and in particular on the WRX limiteds. Plain WRX trim level did remain several thousand dollars below a LGT.

As an example, a 2007 wrx limited stickering at 28,xxx had a best negotiated price of 26,xxx. A legacy gt stickering at 31,xxx also had a best negotiated price of 26,xxx.

I obviously haven't tested the 08 WRX, so I can't speak for 08WRX vs 08LGT, but had my wife not totaled her passat and forced us to get an Outback (which we really like), I would have snapped up the legacy GT at that price.

Subaru definitely has some curious pricing schemes in the middle of their range, relative not only to their competitors, but to themselves.
