Arrow Stolen 2002 WRX Sedan

Well, the following message was originally posted on Toronto's message board by service & parts manager in Subaru of Mississauga:

Greetings Subaru Fans!

It would seem that the all-new 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX is not only desired by avid performance driving enthusiasts such as yourselves, but it is also sought after by the criminal element in society as well!

Unfortunately we have had a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX stolen from us over the weekend.

The car was parked in the driveway of an employee in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. The car went missing sometime late Friday night/early Saturday morning. This has been reported to the Waterloo Regional Police and they are investigating the incident.

The missing 2002 Impreza WRX is a Platinum Silver Metallic sedan with a 5-speed transmission. The plate number of the car was Ontario ADKS 861 and has a rear license plate frame that just says "Subaru" on it with Subaru logos to the left and right of the word Subaru. The car is still completely stock and has the stock
16" rims etc.

The VIN of the stolen car is: JF1GD29612G500177

If anyone happens to have any information about the theft of the vehicle or anyone approaches you regarding the sale of Impreza
WRX parts please keep this posting in mind!

The engine of course is also stamped with this VIN for identification purposes.

If you believe you may be able to help please contact your local police department or the Waterloo Regional Police at (519)570-3000

We thank you in advance for any help that you might be able to provide. If you do see the vehicle please use good judgement and do not pursue it or approach the vehicle, we just ask that you contact the police and have them investigate.

**IMPORTANT NOTE**
I should also mention that there are already a number of the new WRX (both sedan and wagon) on the road being driven by Subaru
Canada employees and by journalists so please bear this in mind when you think you might have "seen" the stolen car!

We have no idea how the car was taken whatsoever. Long story short it was just "removed" from the driveway of the employee who was driving it.

We are hoping that because there are no other WRX on the road at this time, other than vehicles owned by Subaru Canada that there is a high probability that this person will eventually get caught!

Thank you again for your assistance.

You might want to write the VIN down somewhere just in case someone tries to sell you an EJ20 for a good price some time in the future!

Don't kid yourself if you think the WRX is still in town if it's even in the country at all. Alot of stolen cars are immediately shipped across the ocean to some far off countries. I know in Russia you can actually see cars with Ontario license plates still on it!
toronto has one of the highest grand theft auto rate in North America.
Vehicles like Grand Cherokees and Ford Explorers are easy target and are shipped to Middle east countries. It's really funny to see grand Cherokees in Saudi Arabia where there's not a single Jeep dealership there. And yet tons of Jeeps run around there. Makes you think...

I've been thinking..albeit this scenario is hella unlikely.

What if the owner of the stolen car (original owner) runs into his/her car in another country...with PROOF that he/she is the original owner.

It depends on what country, the states will probably handle the situation the same as they would here. Nab the bad guy, and press charges. Overseas, in the Middle East? probably nothing, theyll probablly charge you with conspiracy or something...

So, why would those guys with stolen cars drive around with the original country's plates? Wouldn't they need their own plates to drive it over there? Or do they have insurance at all?

it was on the front of the car so the owner idin't bother to take it off.

Kinda scary, but I have seen cars in places that they didn't belong before as well.

Ontario plates in the carribean, Florida plates in South America.

It is a global economy, especially if you are a criminal!

I wonder if Subaru has ever got their car back? Anybody with an RS should note the VIN in case someone ever tries to give you a "great deal" on an EJ20!!

Ummm, it is possible to drive to south america. Don't know why anyone would want to do it unless you are a real glutton for punishment, but it is possinle. However, a car in Saudi Arabia with foreign (ie North American) plates on it is definetly not legal.
