Thumbs up Get Dirty

Cool. The more RallyCrosses the better.

Couple of comments/suggestions:

Which Thunderhill/where are you? I'm guessing, based on the area code and the reference to the Mini-Mart, you're in CA.

I wouldn't recommend a self-tech. I'm not sure how the insurance company would feel about that. One thing missing on the tech sheet is (full) throttle return (spring) check (for vehicles that aren't fly-by-wire ).

Is the membership just make you eligible for the championship, or is it a track membership of some kind? Do you have more dates yet for a championship this year?

Interesting idea splitting trucks/SUVs into there own class. I thin you might be better off just leaving them in the regular 2WD & 4WD classes though. A RWD truck (with no weight in the back) will more than likely be at a significant disadvantage to a 4WD truck. Also, a well driven truck can be just as quick as a car in the same class (take a look at the NER RallyCross results and see how Scott Beliveau does with a raised Tacoma on fat tires in the stock 4WD class ).

I think being able to offer a RallyCross series at a formal venue like this is great. I hope it goes well!

Just my $.02 from experience.

Hi Matt! Thanks for your input... let me respond to your comments:

Which Thunderhill/where are you? I'm guessing, based on the area code and the reference to the Mini-Mart, you're in CA.

Is there a Thunderhill raceway near you? I wasn't aware of there being more than 1 in the US... very interested though. Also... is Mini-Mart a california term? I guess it is, because you hit the nail on the head. It's in Willows, CA (far north)

I wouldn't recommend a self-tech. I'm not sure how the insurance company would feel about that. One thing missing on the tech sheet is (full) throttle return (spring) check (for vehicles that aren't fly-by-wire ).
Basically, this is to save time on my part. I have run a drift event for a while, and have found that people usually know if their cars are good or not. The main thing I'll be checking personally at the events is the battery tie-down. As for throttle-return, that has been on my tech-lists in the past, and when I make my OWN (you can see I'm just linking to the Thunderhill Drivers school tech sheet) it'll certainly include that. For now, I'm not too worried about it.

Is the membership just make you eligible for the championship, or is it a track membership of some kind? Do you have more dates yet for a championship this year?
Membership makes you eligible for the championship, the free event, and the ultra-cool newsletter. Has nothing to do really with the track, just a good incentive to come to ALL the events. Yes, we have a full list of dates between now and the end of the year, there will be 4 or 5 events in the first championship, and I'll announce the other dates as soon as I have the website up (which should be later this week)

Interesting idea splitting trucks/SUVs into there own class. I thin you might be better off just leaving them in the regular 2WD & 4WD classes though. A RWD truck (with no weight in the back) will more than likely be at a significant disadvantage to a 4WD truck. Also, a well driven truck can be just as quick as a car in the same class (take a look at the NER RallyCross results and see how Scott Beliveau does with a raised Tacoma on fat tires in the stock 4WD class ).

actually, the only reason we're adding a truck class is because many of the locals to the track are farmers, and for the 15 years the track has been in business the locals haven't participated much. This is our cry out to the farmers to come out and have some fun.

I'll gladly answer any other questions you have, and I'm very interested in any suggestions you may have. The other local events and I are trying to work together to advance the sport, and the scene here in NorCal, and it's very nice to have helpful input from abroad.

Thanks for the input!

-Geoff

Who is sanctioning this and will it be on the typical Thunder Hill rallycross course?

Looks like a fun event Geoff. If I had not sold the STi a while back, I would be there. I don't think my stiffly sprung Fiat 128 track car would like the abuse much.

Where on the facility is this being held? Is is primarily grass/dirt, or lots of gravel?

sorry guys... I was getting beat up in my intro thread.

okay to answer your questions...

this is a NON SANCTIONED event put on by ME and THUNDERHILL.

porsche, clavo, urfsin - yes it will be in the old rally/x area, EXCEPT we are taking a good chunk of the moto-x track out to make the rally-x area bigger.

Draken - Primarily Dirt, not really any grass or gravel. You're in chico eh? do you take your car to the track frequently? I'm there every day so we've probably seen eachother there. its on the left as you go through the main gate.

I run a 1972 Fiat 128 with the NCRC/ACR group. I was out there on Friday, the 20th.

Are you referring to the freshly graded area next to the side parking lot (where the drifters do their thing)?

He means the area to the left just as you turn into Thunderhill off the highway.

It should be interesting to see how these events turn out.

Corrected the above. Making claims to your insurance on damage done during any type of competitive driving is BAD, mmkay? Not only do you risk getting dropped if they find out the real story (and insurance fraud is a felony in many states), you make a bad name for the rest of us. This topic has been covered repeatedly in this forum, so I'll leave it at that.

this is a highly disputed subject.

Let me clarify:

In NO way is ThunderCross or Thunderhill Raceway suggesting that you lie to your insurance company, or anyone else for that matter.

I'll leave it at that.

Draken, thats a beautiful car you have there. Yeah friday, that was the day that Bob took Bill's GT2 2nd Gen out and the "hood-closing system" failed as he was exiting the pits. I saw you in the paddock, but I don't remember seeing you on track. That was a really busy day though, I was wrapping up ad-sales on the big publication that day. Nice car though! yeah, I don't think it'd be good for rally... waaaay too pretty

Thirded. Somewhere, I saw (maybe even have) a great in-car movie from this car at Thunderhill. Its great to finally see what it looks like from the outside.

I am facing a scheduling problem now since this event is on the same weekend as the Monterey Historics.

Thanks guys! When I switched from my STi to the Fiat I knew I would be going slower...but I'm having just as much fun. In fact, the Fiat usually gets a good deal more attention at events.

Here is a single lap from last Friday:

yeah, I'd like to go to the historics too... but not this year. Hey is anyone going to the Squaw Valley Auto-X? I'm going to try and run my 240 there.

well biull and the gang at summit must have been listening as the 9/9 WDCR rallycross will be at summit. i hope that we will be able to continue to use the orange, va location as well, but ideally i love a series using 2 or 3 event locations with 2-3 courses available for use at each location
