I put my roof rack setup on the new car today, so I am finally able to transport my mountain bike. My 3 go to places are Hodges Village Dam, Douglas State Forest, and some random trails in Southbridge.

Had a fun ride this morning. Slushy snow made landings a bit sketchy.

Rode harold parker on Sunday afternoon. Everything is looking pretty good over there, not much mud anywhere, even in the swampy areas which was surprising. Only bad part about the ride was coming upon a family whose dog had just passed right on the trail

I haven't done much mountain biking this year. I have been distracted by this...

You clamp the bike in at the seat post, and then you can loosen the thumb screw and to move the bike up and down.

Just picked up this diamondback off Craigslist to get into biking with some buddies who already do it. Supposed to take it out for the first time tonight.

A little off topic, but anyone have a good remedy for squeaky disc breaks? It's not a little, it's loud...

Suck it up. Disc brakes squeak. It means they're doing their job.
Both my cross country and my downhill bikes squeak.

Edit: read that over, and I kind of sounded like a dick. *Not my intention!

Ha! No worries. I wouldn't care if it was just while applying the breaks, but to ride around with a constant squeal is very annoying.

Wait, that sounds off. Mine doesn't make noise while I'm off the brakes, only on. Are you making sure your front wheel is straight when you put it back on?

Yea, taking a look, I think the pads are either slightly off or the rotor is effed. It's happened pretty much as long as I've had it. Was just curious if there were any known remedies other than part replacement. Front wheel has only been off once and it happened prior to that as well.

Check out the mtbr.com forums. I know there's some info about brake adjustment on there. Sometimes one pad or both will be too close to the disk and cause it to rub all the time. There's a method to fix it that I remember seeing.

We should organize a nesic day up at Highland this year, It's been a while since that last happened. Even if I wouldn't actually be driving my Subaru up to it, hah.

If its squeaking when you are not touching the brakes, it could mean that either the wheel wasn't put back on straight, the pads are misaligned, or your rotor is bent. Take off the wheel and spin it. Does the rotor wobble?
You can take it to a shop and they will tell you in 2 minutes what is wrong.

To adjust the pads, take the correct size Allen key and turn in/out either side.

And f yeah! Stoked for Highland! Gotta get my DH bike ready and swap the board rack for the bike rack!

As far as pad squeak, what he said. One other thing that I would see occasionally is someone putting the skewer springs facing incorrectly which can offset the wheel.

PS no independent pad adjustment if your running hydros.

Thanks. From what I've been reading, this is a common problem with the juicy's

True story. I've had 3 sets of juicy's. All of them squeaked.

First ride out last night for me and the bike. Did pretty well. took 1 spill from a wet root sticking out of the ground in a corner. Definately need better tires.

squeaky brakes - take off rotor and wipe with rubbing alcohol. take out disc pads and sand them lightly. push back pistons with flat head screwdriver. reinstall pads and rotor and go out riding.

If you haven't been up to Highland yet, what are you waiting for? Been up the past few weekends and it's been phenomenal. Cat's Paw is so sick and fast, took a video of one of my better runs down it:

This whole thread makes so much sense, whenever I'm at highland it's like a Subi meet.
