I also love those tires. The DHR's are the rear specific tread pattern, so for the fastest rolling set up you may want to check out a DHF front and DHR rear. Those would be great on the rize though, even though they say 2.35 they are probably closer to 2.2 cause maxxis is always rated bigger than they actually are.

I use the Maxxis Advantage on my 5" AM bike because they are lighter and roll faster. For some Highland abuse I would say the DHR/F is better.

I'm getting my fork back soon from getting rebuilt, then getting a new rear wheel, then I'll just be counting the days till Highland. If you buy a season pass, you will be able to ride on May 9th. We'll need to get a Nam ride in before they open.

I might take vacation this summer to go visit my sister in seattle, and use it as an excuse to go to whistler.

You shouldn't have a problem selling that bike. Make sure you put "never been crashed" in the ad. If you want a cheap used bike keep an eye out on some of the local mountain bike forums. I have bought and sold plenty through there.

There are alot of nice bikes out there, you would probably be good with a Giant Reign X or something 6" - 7" of travel, so you could still use it at Nam. I know the Reign X can take anything at Highland. They are pretty cheap new too.

Let me know around what you want to spend and I can find you something on some of the forums.

Keep in mind that bikes depreciate more than cars. Try bustedspoke.com. There are a few bikes that look like they be a decent deal. I am looking around for a new race rig myself.

yea, i've been looking on, bustedspoke, pinkbike, and ridemonkey. what brands should i steer towards and which should i stay away from? i've been looking at kona's, giants, specialized, santa cruz, and a few others is there any bad products and what do you think would be best to take to highland like 4 or 5 times a season and the rest of the season be using on local trails? thanks for all the help guys

Sounds like you are looking for more of a freeride bike than a DownHill Bike. Its all subject, but i tend to think of DH as a race bike. You may want to check out a Santa Cruz Bullit or a Iron Horse 7 Point Series. You may also want to think about a beefy "All Mountain" bike. You can usually find a Kona Stinky cheap. Before you buy anything, Just do your homework. I think most of us will give you a honest opinion.

Wish I wouldn't have seen this thread. My tax return was supposed to go to an 18g for my wrx but now I'm thinking of getting a new bike. Karpiel is supposed to be selling bikes in the US again. I really want an armageddon. A foot of rear travel should hande most if Highlands, right?

I would stay with something around 7 inches. Giant Reign X, Specialized SX trail, Rocky Mtn. Switch, Trek Session 7 or 77, IH 7 point, Santa Cruz is nice but generally expensive.

You can probably go to randalscottcycles.com, and get some crazy prices on the left over Iron Horse's. I have seen a few busted Kona's, so I would personally never want one, but some people like em.

Just make sure you buy something somewhat current with the times and trends. Something like an 04 Spec. Big Hit may be cheap, but the rear 24" wheel is limiting. You will also see Iron Horse SGS's for a nice price, they have a (mostly) proprietary rear hub size, I think 165mm.

I love my Kona Coiler, When it was stock it was a great value. It handled the drops and jumps nicely and felt really stable in the air and on the ground. It also isnt super heavy so its easier to go up the hills too. Now after new front and rear shocks It truely is a dream bike. BTW this is my 2nd coiler and 3rd kona.

Everyone likes pics so:
